A novel collection device for collection, storage and disposal of biological products, in conjunction with an improved cleansing method. Disclosed is an apparatus which includes a locking closing member handle to allow for safe transport and disposal of medical waste. Closing member allows for secure containment of medical waste and subsequent apparatus cleaning. Closing member design includes a gap between closing member and housing which facilitates device cleaning after waste disposal.

Medical waste disposal system assembly

A system for collecting, transporting and disposing of biofluids, such as those collected in a hospital or other health facility, in a manner to protect an operator and related support devices and systems from contact with potentially hazardous biofluids. The system provides a portable container adapted to be connected to the patient's suction tubes and also to the vacuum source, so that biofluid is collected in the container. The container is then moved to a base disposal location, and an outlet valve of the valve and connecting assembly of the container is connected to the base assembly, and the valve of the container moved to an open position. A sealed discharge passageway is formed, and the biofluid flows through this passageway. The valve of the container is closed, and the container removed and either disposed of, or washed, and sanitized so as to be ready for reuse. There is also provided a plug and manifold assembly to removably interfit with the container. The plug and manifold assembly can be made disposable or can be washed and disinfected for reuse.

Contaminated medical waste disposal system and method

A connector (10) is disclosed for providing a connection, for example, a battery pack (16) and a medical instrument (14). The connector includes a grommet (18), which flexibly secures an internal conductive post (24) and external conductive post (26) to the instrument. Drop-shaped external and internal sections 28 and 32 of grommet 18 cooperatively engage external and internal flanges 54 and 58 on the instrument to restrict rotation of the connector, while a central section 30 of the grommet has a circular cross section to provide a seal between the connector and the instrument in the event the connector does rotate. The external section of the grommet is compressed slightly by the battery pack upon insertion into the instrument. A connector constructed with these features can be easily removed from the instrument for servicing and seals the interior of the instrument as well as connections made to the external post.
