Embodiments are directed to optics, light modules with such optics, and methods of assembling such light modules such that the optics are attached and sealed directly to a printed circuit board, thereby eliminating the need for gaskets and a frame and reducing the number of component parts of the light module. In some embodiments, the optics are discrete optics that can each be attached to the printed circuit board independent of the other optics.

An antimicrobial system, including a luminaire. The luminaire includes a first disinfection light source to emit a first disinfection light in a first ultraviolet (UV) band for disinfecting an occupied space of a plurality of pathogens that are exposed to the first disinfection light, the first UV band being 200 nanometers (nm) to 250 nm principal wavelength. The luminaire also includes a second disinfection light source to emit a second disinfection light in a second UV band for disinfecting an unoccupied space of the plurality of pathogens that are exposed to the second disinfection light, the second UV band being 200 nm to 400 nm principal wavelength. The antimicrobial system also includes a disinfection light control device to generate a control signal to control emission of the first disinfection light and the second disinfection light.

Luminaire emitting two different bands of disinfection light

A luminaire includes a luminaire control circuit and a disinfection light source to emit a disinfection light in an ultraviolet (UV) band for disinfecting a vicinity of a physical space of a target pathogen that is exposed to the disinfection light. The UV band is 200 nanometers (nm) to 230 nm wavelength. The luminaire receives a control signal based on at least the mounting height of the luminaire. The luminaire adjusts a UV radiation threshold limit based on the control signal. The luminaire controls, via a driver circuit, the disinfection light source over a dose cycle to emit the disinfection light continuously or during the plurality of periods for disinfecting the vicinity to substantially obtain the target pathogen UV radiation level and restrict the total UV radiation threshold exposure level by the adjusted UV radiation threshold limit based on the control signal.

A luminaire includes a luminaire control circuit and a disinfection light source to emit a disinfection light in an ultraviolet (UV) band for disinfecting a vicinity of a space of a target pathogen that is exposed to the disinfection light. The UV band is 200 nanometers (nm) to 230 nm wavelength. The luminaire initiates a dose cycle of a vicinity in which the disinfection light source emits the disinfection light continuously or during a plurality of periods of a dose cycle from the disinfection light source by recording a beginning time of the dose cycle. The luminaire controls, via a driver circuit, the disinfection light source over the dose cycle to emit the disinfection light continuously or during the plurality of periods for disinfecting the vicinity to substantially obtain a target pathogen UV radiation level and restrict a total UV radiation threshold exposure level by a UV radiation threshold limit.

Luminaire with disinfection light exposure and dosage limit control protocol and sensor integration

A device uses gated retro-reflectors to transmit uplink data in a visible light communication (VLC) system. The gated retro-reflector includes a retro-reflector and a gating shutter between the retro-reflector and a VLC light source. A light sensor receives VLC data at regular intervals in which a light pulse received during one of the intervals represents a first downloaded symbol and absence of a light pulse during another one of the intervals represents a second downloaded symbol. A controller controls the gating shutter to send uplink data from the device responsive to each received VLC light pulse. The controller opens the gating shutter during the reception of a VLC light pulse to upload a first uploaded symbol and closes the gating shutter during the reception of a VLC light pulse to upload a second uploaded symbol.

System and method using a gated retro-reflector for light uplink communication

A thermal conductivity and phase transition heat transfer mechanism has an opto-luminescent phosphor contained within the vapor chamber of the mechanism. The housing includes a section that is thermally conductive and a member that is at least partially optically transmissive, to allow emission of light produced by excitation of the phosphor. A working fluid also is contained within the chamber. The pressure within the chamber configures the working fluid to absorb heat during operation of the lighting device, to vaporize at a relatively hot location at or near at least a portion of the opto-luminescent phosphor as the working fluid absorbs heat, to transfer heat to and condense at a relatively cold location, and to return as a liquid to the relatively hot location. Also, the working fluid is in direct contact with or contains at least a portion of the opto-luminescent phosphor.
