A trocar for use in a minimally invasive surgical procedure includes an elongated body, nozzle means and means for delivering a pressurized flow of fluid to the nozzle means. The elongated body has a generally tubular configuration with coaxially arranged inner and outer walls and longitudinally opposed proximal and distal end portions, with the inner wall defining a lumen to accommodate passage of an instrument therethrough. The nozzle means is operatively associated with the inner wall of the body for directing pressurized fluid into the lumen to develop a pressure differential in an area within a region extending from a location adjacent a distal end portion of the lumen to a location adjacent a proximal end portion of the lumen, to form a fluid seal around an instrument passing therethrough.

Trocar assembly with pneumatic sealing

A trocar assembly for providing a pressurized insufflation fluid into a patient cavity and for providing sealable access to the patient cavity by a surgical instrument. The assembly comprises an inner tubular member having a proximal end and a distal end. An outer tubular member is disposed about the inner tubular member, the outer tubular member having a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end of the inner tubular member and the distal end of the outer tubular member define a trocar seal nozzle arranged therebetween.

Continuous gas flow trocar assembly

A surgical access device is provided having a surgical access port. The surgical access port has an elongated body with opposed proximal and distal end portions, and defines a longitudinal axis. The body has a central lumen extending therethrough and includes a resilient bulb portion formed between the proximal and distal end portions of the body. The resilient bulb portion is adapted and configured to transition, through engagement with an insertion device, between a first condition in which the bulb portion has a first diameter and a first length and a second condition in which the bulb portion has a second diameter and a second length for insertion and removal through a patient's abdominal wall, and to be retained in place therethrough. The second diameter is less than the first diameter, and the second length is greater than the first length.

Elastically deformable surgical access device

A trocar assembly for use in surgery in a patient, comprising an elongated outer tubular member having a first or proximal end and a second or distal end. The proximal end has a housing enclosing a fluid pressure chamber therein. The distal end of the outer tubular member has a gaseous fluid discharge arrangement therethrough, through which a medical instrument is disposed for surgical manipulation of the patient.

Self-simmering fragrance dispenser

An instrument for directing the insertion of a penetration member urged through tissue. The instrument includes a shaft, and a backstop positioned at a distal end of the shaft. The backstop and shaft are configured such that the backstop may be positioned adjacent one side of the tissue to be penetrated, and a penetration member may thereafter be urged through the opposite side of the tissue into the backstop. A method of penetrating the tissue wall of an anatomical cavity is also provided.

Apparatus and methods for the penetration of tissue

A trocar employing an internal stabilizer and an optional external stabilizer is provided. The internal stabilizer is passed through the tissue wall along with the cannula, with the internal stabilizer in a retracted position. Once the cannula has been extended into the anatomical cavity, the stabilizer returns to its normal, extended position. A method of treating urinary incontinence in a patient by: providing a pressure monitor probe comprising a catheter having a pressure responsive region and a distal portion, the pressure responsive region spaced a predetermined distance from the distal portion; inserting the pressure monitor probe into the patient's urethra such that the distal portion is positioned in the patient's bladder adjacent the UVJ, thereby positioning the pressure responsive region of the catheter within the urethra a predetermined distance from the UVJ; and surgically modifying the pressure applied against the urethra while monitoring the pressure applied against the urethra using the probe. An intraurethral pressure monitor probe and an intraurethral pressure monitoring assembly are also provided.
