The present invention provides a body passage cleansing device suitable for being passed through an internal channel of an endoscope, comprising a distal plug having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein said plug comprises channels, apertures and/or nozzles which are capable of allowing the passage of a fluid therethrough from said proximal end to said distal end, wherein said plug is connected to the distal end of a wire or other actuating means; wherein at least an outer portion of said distal plug is capable of being elastically deformed such that the external diameter and/or outline thereof may be reduced in response to inwardly-directed compression forces exerted thereon; and wherein said channels, apertures and/or nozzles are in a closed conformation when said distal plug is subject to said compression forces, and in an open conformation when said plug is not subject to said compression forces.

Body passage cleansing device

An end effector assembly with increased clamping force for a surgical instrument including a hollow shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, a clevis coupled to the distal end of the hollow shaft, a flat support coupled to the clevis, a deflection member, a procedural member assembly rotatably coupled to the flat support and a pair of actuation means attached to the procedural member assembly and slidable relative to the hollow shaft for rotationally moving the procedural member assembly between a closed and an open position wherein the deflection member engaged the actuation means. The deflection member may be integral with the clevis, coupled to the clevis and the flat support, coupled to just the flat support, may be adjustable or rotatable or coupled to hollow shaft.

End effector assembly with increased clamping force for a surgical instrument

A method of progressive die stamping manufacturing a biopsy forceps jaw comprising the steps of cutting a sheet of metal into a strip. The strip of metal may then be punched with a series of guide holes. A shape larger than a pattern of the biopsy forceps jaw may then be defined in the strip of metal. An actuating hole may be punched into the shape. A concave shaped cup portion of the biopsy forceps jaw may be drawn. The pattern of the biopsy forceps jaw may then be cut to expose a cutting edge and exposed edges of the pattern. The cutting edge can be coined to provide a hardened, sharp, cutting edge. The exposed edges may be chamfered and then the pattern may be folded and shaped to form a biopsy forceps jaw cup and an arm positioned relative to the biopsy forceps jaw cup. A pivot hole may then be punched into the arm. The biopsy forceps jaw may then go through a calibration so that the cutting edge is in a plane perpendicular to a plane of the arm. The jaw cup may then be cut off of the strip of metal.

Method of manufacturing a stamped biopsy forceps jaw

A biopsy forceps jaw device and method of assembling, comprising pivotally mounting to a single flat support having a single aperture a threaded, self-centering proximal end and a pointed distal end, an integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly having a cutting plane. The integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly pivots about a common axis within the single aperture allowing for rotation of the integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly within the cuffing plane. A pair of actuating wires for moving the integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly from a closed position to an open position is attached to the integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly. The threaded self-centering proximal end of the single flat support and the pair of actuating wires are inserted into a tubular member. The integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly and the single flat support are centered within the tubular member through the threaded self-centering proximal end.

Method of assembling a non-metallic biopsy forceps jaw

A biopsy forceps jaw device and method of assembling, comprising pivotally mounting to a single flat support having a single aperture a threaded, self-centering proximal end and a pointed distal end, an integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly having a cutting plane. The integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly pivots about a common axis within the single aperture allowing for rotation of the integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly within the cutting plane. A pair of actuating wires for moving the integrally connected jaw non-metallic assembly from a closed position to an open position is attached to the integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly. The threaded self-centering proximal end of single flat support and the pair of actuating wires are inserted into a tubular member. The integrally connected non-metallic jaw assembly and the single flat support are centered within the tubular member through the threaded self-centering proximal end.

Method of assembling a non-metallic biopsy forceps jaw and a non-metallic biopsy forceps jaw

A biopsy forceps device encompassing integrally designed parts for opening and closing the cutting jaws of the device and reducing the number of individual parts in the entire device and having features which specifically reduce the number of parts involved in the pivot mechanism, and having features which eliminate projections which may damage equipment used in conjunction with the device, and having features which specifically permit the device to obtain and store more than one tissue sample.

Flexible biopsy jaw assembly

There is disclosed a flexible biopsy forceps device for extracting tissue samples from a patient. The forceps device includes a long flexible sheath having a cable extending therethrough, a jaw assembly connected at one end of the cable and a handle assembly attached at the other end of the cable. The handle assembly includes a spool slidably mounted on a shaft connected to the cable and sheath in such a way that movement of the spool handle results in movement of the cable with respect to the sheath to open and close the jaws. A spool insert is provided which has two portions which fit together locking the end portion of the cable therebetween. The spool insert slides into an axial passageway in the spool and interlocks with the spool in such a way that it is irreversibly locked therewith. The jaw assembly includes a trocar which is locked with the jaw assembly using a tongue-in-groove assembly.
