A method for joining ends of fiber webs with a device comprising a tool element with a gripping device and a traversing punching device. A run of the fiber web from the emptying parent roll is moved to a joining position at the tool element. The trailing end of the parent roll fiber web is cut upstream from the joining position and the fiber web is attached to the tool element by a gripping device of the tool element. An end of a new roll fiber web is guided to contact with and to an overlapping position with the trailing end of the parent roll fiber. The traversing punching device is moved across the width direction of the fiber webs and makes at least one joint cut and joins the fiber webs. The new fiber web is cut downstream from the joint, and then tension control is turned on.

Method and a device for joining ends of fiber webs in a parent roll change of an unwinder

To minimize the cost of a fiber web due to the web, particularly a board web, being manufactured overly thick to compensate for loss of caliper in the reel-up, the web is made thicker just for the inner layers of what will become a parent roll. The caliper of the web is measured as or after it is unwound. A caliper curve of the parent roll as a function of the diameter of the parent roll is calculated as a function of the diameter of the parent roll and/or the customer roll. The fiber web is adjusted by changing running parameters of the production line: web speed i.e. production speed, headbox-flow, head-box consistency, coating weight of the coating paste or calender nip load.

A reeling shaft transfer rail system has two parallel substantially horizontal or slightly sloped rails for supporting the ends () of a reeling shaft (). Hoses are arranged on each of the transfer rails () and filled or drained to move and hold the reeling shaft (). In a turn-up method for a reel-up for reeling of fiber webs, a web travelling in direction (S) is cut by two water jet nozzles moving in a transverse direction in relation to the web travelling direction (S). Two cuts (C, C) are formed by two water jet nozzles starting from the edges of the web (W) and moving to the web center where the cuts (C, C) cross or meet forming a V-shaped tail end (V). After the cuts the movement of the water jet nozzles is stopped and after the return movement of the water jet nozzles, cutting is started again from the center toward the edges so that the web W is cut by two cuts (C, C) and a substantially V-shaped beginning end (V) to the web W is formed and between the cuts (C, C) for the tail end (V) and the cuts (C, C) for the beginning end (V) there is formed one web reject part (R) with two substantially V-shaped cuts. A turn-up device for a reel-up for reeling of fiber webs has two water jet nozzles, in which the cutting by the water jet nozzles () may be stopped between cutting of a tail end (V) and cutting of a beginning end (V) for a selected time for forming only, wherein there is one reject part (R) in the turn-up and the cross-direction travel distance (L, L) of each nozzle is substantially shorter than the width (L) of the web (W).

A slitter-winder for winding of pulp webs or corresponding webs with a thickness of at least 0.5 mm, in which the winder is a two-drum winder having two winding drums on support of which at least two pulp web rolls are wound. At least one of the winding drums is a nip acceptance winding drum (NAWD), that is a winding drum with a cover having a hardness of 40-80 Shore A and a thickness of 3-50 mm. The winding drums and a steel core or a shaft of the at least two pulp web rolls have parallel rotation axes and are in a rolling contact where the at least one winding drum is driven.

The present invention relates to a winding section () and to an apparatus () in a slitter winder for bringing a fastening means onto the surface of each partial web (w'). The apparatus () has an applicator head (&#x2032;), which is arranged to apply the fastening means onto the web surface. The apparatus () has support members () by means of which the apparatus can be mounted into the slitter winder and by means of which the apparatus () can be arranged movably substantially in a cross-direction with respect to the slitter winder.

A core locking device has members () for locking the device () to a winding core of a roll to be wound on a two-drum winder, advantageously to a core. The device () is placed on a slide arranged in connection with the two-drum winder, and moves, as winding progresses, with the center of the roll being formed along the slide. The device () has an actuator () to produce a counterforce for the force caused by the mass of the core locking device () in the changed position of the core locking device ().
