An example end cap of a stator segment is provided for use in locating wires in a segmented stator assembly in desired positions. The end cap generally includes a body and an inboard wall. An identifier is defined by the inboard wall of the end cap for use in determining wire sizes to be used with the end cap. Terminal pockets are provided in the body for receiving the wires and making desired electrical connections, and steps located in the terminal pockets help secure the connectors in the terminal pockets. Plateaus, and troughs defined in the plateaus, are located outside the terminal pockets for use in trimming wires received in the terminal pockets as desired. And, retaining structures are located around the end cap to help with locating the wires in the desired positions.

A motor includes a stator core and windings extending through the stator core. The windings include end turns extending from the stator core that form a coil. A protector is electrically connected to the windings and is positioned adjacent the coil. A bracket is sized and shaped to receive the protector, and includes a spacer in contact with the protector and with the coil. The protector is spaced from the coil by the spacer to reduce heat transfer from the windings to the protector.

A three-phase, high voltage motor for use in a scroll compressor includes a stator core having an annular rim and a plurality of teeth extending radially inward from the rim. Aluminum windings are wrapped around teeth of the plurality of teeth of the stator core. The windings are spaced 120 electrical degrees from each other. The motor further includes a rotor body that is rotatably mounted inside the stator core and includes an external surface facing the stator core.

A hermetic compressor and electrical connector therefor. A shell of the compressor defines an internal chamber and a motor positioned inside the shell within the chamber drives the compressor. The motor has a stator assembly including a winding. A hermetic terminal plug connects the winding to a power supply to energize the motor. The plug has an internal conductor pin electrically connected to a corresponding external conductor pin. The internal conductor pin protrudes into the internal chamber for connection to the winding and the external conductor pin extends away from the shell for connection to the power supply for energizing the motor. The compressor also includes a terminal block mounted on the stator assembly for supporting an end portion of the winding. The terminal block has a notch aligned with the internal conductor pin for receiving the internal conductor pin when the motor is positioned inside the shell. In this manner, the internal conductor pin is electrically connected to the end portion of the winding supported by the terminal block. The invention is also directed to a method of constructing such a compressor.

Hermetic compressor and an electrical connector therefor

A permanent split capacitor motor operable in a full mode and in a modulated mode for improving efficiency. The motor includes a stator and a rotor in rotational relationship with the stator. The motor also includes a single set of windings wound on the stator. The windings are in a magnetically coupled relationship with each other such that one of the windings is a main motor winding while the other is an auxiliary motor winding. The windings define a plurality of A-ratios as a function of turns in the main motor winding compared to turns in the auxiliary motor winding. A switching circuit selectively energizes the first and second windings in a full mode configuration and in a modulated mode configuration based on motor load conditions. In the full mode configuration, the A-ratio of the windings is greater than in the modulated mode configuration.
