An insulin infusion system is provided with a manual insertion device having a dual retraction spring () configuration for automatic introducer needle () retraction. A button () of the insertion device is used to insert the introducer needle () and catheter (), and once the introducer needle () and catheter () have been fully inserted, a rotating engagement releases the dual retraction springs () such that the introducer needle () automatically retracts, leaving the catheter () in the body of the user. An end of the introducer needle () remains in the inserted catheter () and/or in the septum () of the inserted catheter () to provide an uninterrupted fluid path.

A medical device for infusing medical substances has activation buttons accessible on an exterior of a device housing. The activation buttons and corresponding electrical switches within the device housing are configured to prevent inadvertent activation of the activation buttons and therefore inadvertent operation of the corresponding electrical switches to initiate a process such as the infusion of medical substance(s) to a user. The medical device employs overlap of respective time traces initiated by activation of the activation buttons to determine whether the activation is intended and valid. A medication delivery device includes an infusion pump system having a reservoir, a fluid path connected between the reservoir and an insertion mechanism, a plunger arranged inside the reservoir, and a pump drive mechanism coupled with the reservoir. The medication delivery device further includes a processing device configured to determine a user fill volume of a fluid medication by analyzing a location of the plunger inside the reservoir when a fill of the fluid medication is completed. The processing device is configured to determine the user fill volume of the fluid medication by sensing a pressure inside the reservoir.
