An electrical system and method for a turbine/alternator comprising a gas driven turbine and a permanent magnet alternator rotating on a common shaft includes an inverter circuit connectable either to an output circuit or the stator winding of the alternator. A control circuit during a start-up mode switches the inverter circuit to the stator winding of the alternator and during a power out mode switches the inverter circuit to the output circuit. During the power out mode, current data is sensed and is used for current limit and/or power balancing.

A control circuit during a startup mode switches the inverter circuit to the stator winding of the alternator and during a power out mode switches the inverter circuit to the AC output circuit. Thus, during the startup mode, the alternator functions as a motor to raise the speed of the turbine to a safe ignition speed and in the power out mode the electrical system outputs the AC output circuit, electrical power having a frequency unrelated to the rotation speed of the alternator.

A plurality of channels extends within the body about the passageway centerline, and are oriented along a circumferential angle about the passageway centerline to deliver air at the discharge end of the passageway with an axially whirling motion. The channels are simultaneously oriented along an axial angle about the passageway centerline, thereby directing the flow of air to converge toward the passageway centerline, mix with the fuel, and then at least in part diverge from the passageway centerline. The whirling air intersects with the fuel at the exit of the nozzle to effectively atomize both the air and fuel thereby providing a homogeneous air/fuel mixture to the combustion chamber.

A process is provided for forming a metallic edge having a three dimensional internal configuration by preparing a metallic edge blank having a two dimensional internal configuration; attaching a flange to the sides of the blank; preheating the blank, forming mandrel and receiver dies to a temperature at which the metal is in a malleable state, with the forming mandrel having an external surface which corresponds to the three dimensional internal configuration of the formed metallic edge; and hot forming the metallic edge by securing the blank within the receiver dies and advancing the mandrel into the inner cavity of the blank through use of a drive means which rotates the mandrel as it advances into the blank while maintaining the blank, mandrel and receiver dies at the malleable temperature.

A combined trumpet valve and reed valve serve to control the flow of fluid into a conduit and is particularly adapted for lens cleaning apparatus for flowing water over the lens or lens cover in an endoscope with viewing mechanism and is capable of retracting the trapped fluid in the conduit to prevent it from dripping into the area being viewed and removing any residual fluid that is left on the lens when the valve is positioned to the closed position.

A two-piece locking handle may be used to lock the lens cleaning apparatus to the borescope. Another embodiment includes a flexible tube utilized with the cuff.
