Oral phototherapy device

Light-based systems and methods are provided with targeted antibacterial action for mouth care in animals such as dogs. In various embodiments, the device includes a substantially impermeable shell. The shell has an outer surface. The outer surface has at least one substantially transparent region. The device further includes at least one light-emitting diode disposed within the shell. The at least one light-emitting diode is adapted to emit light having a wavelength between about 400 nm and about 1,000 nm when powered. The at least one light-emitting diode is configured to provide an average light intensity of between about 10 and about 50 mW/cmacross the at least one substantially transparent region of the outer surface. The device further includes a power source disposed within the shell. The device further includes a switch at least partially disposed within the shell and adapted to control current flow from the power source to the at least one light-emitting diode.

Animal phototherapeutic system

The present invention relates to methods, systems, kits and devices that emit light to the oral cavity. The device includes a light source; a power source in electrical communication with the light source; and a bite actuated switch in electrical communication with the power source and the light source. The device is a size or shape that fits within an oral cavity of an individual. Since the device along with the light and power source are self contained, the user have their hands-free and can perform other activities while using the device. The device, methods, systems, and kits, further include the use of an agent (e.g., antibacterial agents, tooth whitening agents, cleaning agents) that assists or enhances the efficacy of the light therapy.

Intraoral light-emitting device

Therapeutic agent delivery devices and methods for using them in treatment of dental disease are disclosed. In the treatment of periodontal disease, a therapeutic agent such as tetracycline mixed in a polymeric matrix such as ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer is packed into the area to be treated and kept in place for a suitable time, during which the therapeutic agent diffuses out of the polymeric matrix, providing continuous therapy for the treatment site.
