A method for manufacturing an electronic device is disclosed. A design description of the electronic device is generated using one or more computer aided design tools. Physical device data are generated that represent a physical description of the electronic device, which includes data determining connection points for connecting the electronic device to one or more external circuits. A physical embodiment of the electronic device is produced in accordance with the physical device data. Physical test member data is determined that represents conductors and contact points of a test member for testing the electronic device. The test member is produced in accordance with the test member data. The electronic device is tested with the test member.

Improved systems and methods for timing athletic events. A radio-based starter unit and a radio based timer unit communicate wirelessly via radio. Push buttons/switches and lights and a speaker in the units provide an intuitive, easy to use interface. Handshaking occurs between the starter unit and the timer unit, and lights indicate that the event is ready to start. Real time clocks in the units are synchronized. Upon detection of race or other event start, such as from a starter's pistol, information indicative of the race start time is transmitted from the start unit to the timer unit. A camera in communication with the timer unit provides video frames, and the timer unit encodes and inserts elapsed time information in the video frames, which are then output from the timer unit for review and analysis on a computer.

Systems and methods for timing athletic events

Improved contact devices and methods for producing contact devices and using such contact devices to produce electronic devices are disclosed. A contact device having a plurality of nominally coplanar first contact elements makes electrical contact with corresponding nominally coplanar second contact elements of an electronic device such an integrated circuit or liquid crystal or other display when the contact device and the electronic device are positioned so that the plane of the first contact elements is substantially parallel to the plane of the second contact elements and relative displacement of the devices is effected in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the first contact elements and the plane of the second contact elements. The contact device preferably consists of a stiff substrate having a major portion with fingers projecting therefrom in cantilever fashion, each finger having a proximal end at which it is connected to the major portion of the substrate and an opposite distal end and there being one or two contact elements on the distal end of each finger.

Methods for manufacturing an electronic device using an electronically determined test member

An electromechanical machine having a stator and a rotor, the stator including at least one stator module of N toroid shaped electromagnets, the electromagnets arranged along an arc a predetermined distance apart defining a stator arc length. Each of the electromagnets has at least one gap. The rotor includes a disc adapted to pass through the at least one gap. The disc includes a plurality of permanent magnets spaced side by side about a periphery thereof and arranged so as to have alternating north-south polarities. The permanent magnets are sized and spaced such that within the stator arc length the ratio of permanent magnets to electromagnets is N+1 to N, where N is the number of electrical excitation phases applied to the electromagnets.

Methods for manufacturing an electronic device having an electronically determined physical test member

An electromotive machine having a stator element and a rotor element, the stator element including at least one set of N preferably toroidally shaped electromagnetic members, the electromagnetic members arranged along an arc a predetermined distance apart defining a stator arc length. Each of the members has a slot, and the rotor element includes a disc adapted to pass through the slots. The disc contains a plurality of permanent magnet members spaced side by side about a periphery thereof and arranged so as to have alternating north-south polarities. These permanent magnet members are sized and spaced such that within the stator arc length the ratio of stator members to permanent magnet members is N to N+1, where N is the number of electrical excitation phases applied to the electromagnets. The electromagnetic members are energized to create high torque and smooth operation.

It is necessary to effect relative displacement of the devices by a distance d from first touchdown to achieve last touchdown. The substrate is dimensioned such that relative displacement of the devices by a distance d from first touchdown generates a reaction force at each contact element of about 0.1*f&plusmn;0.1*f, and further relative displacement by a distance of about 75 microns or 5*d beyond last touchdown generates a reaction force at each contact element of about 0.9&plusmn;0.1*f.

A probe for testing integrated circuits includes a stiff elastic substrate including a conductive plane, the substrate having a major portion with fingers projecting therefrom in cantilever fashion. A layer of dielectric material is adhered to the substrate and has a main surface remote from the substrate. A plurality of conductor runs are adhered to the layer of dielectric material at the main surface thereof. The conductor runs extend over at least some of the fingers and are configured to form transmission lines when the conductive plane is connected to a reference potential level.
