A method of replacing an ACL with a graft. The method provides for the drilling bone tunnels in a femur and a tibia. A replacement graft is provided having first and second ends. A biodegradable composite screw is provided. The screw is made from a biodegradable polymer and a bioceramic or a bioglass. At least one end of the graft is secured in a bone tunnel using the biodegradable composite screw.

Method of performing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using biodegradable interference screw

Surgical sutures having a core extending along a length thereof between a first end and a second end, and a plurality of sets of first and second projections, wherein the first projections extend in a direction of a first end of the suture and the second projections extend in a direction of a second end of the suture. The first projections may be sized and shaped, and positioned relative to the second projections so as to be capable of substantially shielding the second projections when the surgical suture is drawn through tissue by the second end thereof. The first projections may additionally or alternatively be capable of overlapping and substantially covering a distal end of the respective second projections when the suture is drawn through tissue by the second end.

Bi-directional barbed suture

A substantially flat implant for repositioning a patient's eyebrow that may allow for a gradient lift across the eyebrow. The implant may be geometrically non-symmetrical, and/or may have non-symmetric physical properties. The implant may include a foot portion that extends along a first longitudinal axis and has a length, and a vertical strip portion that extends outwardly from the foot portion along a second longitudinal axis. Composition and method for treating post-surgical pain

An orthopedic screw with an internal bore and mating driver has a bioabsorbable polymer component. To increase the torque tolerance of the screw and to minimize the likelihood of the driver stripping inside the bore of the screw, the screw and driver are heat treated together to shrink fit the screw onto the driver thereby increasing the driver-to-screw contact and distributing the loading force over a greater area to protect against material failure. The heat treatment involves heating the screw to an elevated temperature and holding that temperature for a period to promote stress relaxation and/or crystallization of the material.

Polymer-based orthopedic screw and driver system with increased insertion torque tolerance and associated method for making and using same

An orthopedic interference screw has a hard, self-threading front section and a bioabsorbable rear section. The two sections are conjoined and threaded such that the hard front section cuts threads into the bone and the softer rear section follows the threads into the bone. Preferably, the screw has an axial bore for matingly receiving a turning tool such as a hex wrench.

Self-tapping resorbable two-piece bone screw

Composite materials formed from biocompatible polymer fibers and biodegradable polymers are disclosed. The heat treatment conditions for the reinforcing fibers are described so that the mechanical properties of the fibers can be retained during composite consolidation process. The processing conditions and set-ups to consolidations are constrained to the temperatures lower than fiber heat treatment temperatures. The reinforcing fibers are restrained under tension so that the minimum relaxation occurs during consolidation process.
