Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to an apparatus and/or method involving an asymmetrical frame connected to an extension arm, and a filter having opposing surface areas terminating around a perimeter of the filter. The filter is configured with the frame and the extension arm to conform one of the opposing surface areas to an inner sidewall of a tubular structure.

Filter apparatuses and methods

As may be implemented in accordance with one or more embodiments characterized herein, aspects of the present disclosure are directed to an apparatus including first and second filters, a shaft and a frame coupled to the shaft and to the first filter. The frame and shaft operate to seal a perimeter of the first filter around an opening in a sidewall of a tubular structure, by pressing the frame against the perimeter and the sidewall. The second filter is also coupled to the frame and operates with the frame to extend into cross section of the tubular structure away from the frame and the sidewall, with the frame sealing the first filter around the opening, and to filter particles from fluid flowing past the opening and along the length of the sidewall.

Catheter-based apparatuses and methods with filter pouch

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed toward catheter-based apparatuses, such as componentry utilized with or as part of catheters, or as catheters or catheter assemblies. As may be implemented in accordance with one or more embodiments, a method and/or apparatus involves a filter having a frame that forms a perimeter of the filter and separates opposing surfaces thereof. An articulated arm is connected to the frame and configured therewith to, when deployed within a tubular organ, engage with opposing inner sidewall portions of the tubular organ and to utilize the inner sidewall portions to seal filter to the inner sidewall by applying force to the frame.

As may be implemented with various aspects of the present disclosure, a mesh structure is coupled to inner and outer frames that operate with struts to apply pressure to the mesh. Such an approach may involve sealing the mesh around an opening, such as around one or more artery openings along an interior wall of vascular tissue (e.g., in an aortic arch). Accordingly, blood flow can be filtered in a manner that is useful for capturing particulates such as those resulting from surgical operations. In various implementations, the mesh, struts and frames are deployed using a catheter and shaft coupled to the frames. Such an approach can be implemented to apply a spring force from the shaft and through the frames for sealing the mesh.

Catheter-based apparatuses and methods

Blood flow into vascular tissue is filtered in a manner that can also be useful for trapping particulates while allowing the flow of blood. Consistent with one or more embodiments, a filter apparatus includes a filter, an outer delivery sheath such as a catheter, and one or more shafts that are operable to manipulate the shape of the filter for positioning within vascular tissue. The filter conforms to various types of vascular tissue, and filters blood flow passing through openings in the vascular tissue. In some implementations, the filter is used to trap particulates that have been collected on the filter, and collapses to trap and draw the particulates into the outer delivery sheath.
