The present invention provides methods of drying radiofrequency-activatable inkjet inks, methods for customizing the radiofrequency parameters of an RF source based on pre-selected printing conditions, and methods for selecting or formulating an RF inkjet ink composition based on pre-selected printing conditions and/or printing equipment. The invention further provides radiofrequency-activatable inks having customized radiofrequency susceptibility profiles and to sets of such radiofrequency-activatable inks.

Fast-drying, radiofrequency-activatable inkjet inks and methods and systems for their use

A method is provided for producing hyperbranched polymers comprising heating a polymerizable reaction charge comprising (a) a monomer mixture comprising 50-99.1% by weight of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer and 0.1-50% by weight of one or more multiethylenically unsaturated monomers and (b) if at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer of the monomer mixture is not a thermally initiating monomer, a free radical polymerization initiator, to a temperature in the range from about 250&deg; C. to about 400&deg; C. in a continuous reactor which allows mixing of the reactor contents for a residence time of from about 2 minutes to about 60 minutes, provided that if the total amount of multiethylenically unsaturated monomer is less than 3% by weight of the monomer mixture than at least one of said one or more multiethylenically unsaturated monomers must be tri- or greater ethylenically unsaturated. The hyperbranched polymers prepared by this process are also described.

Hyperbranched polymers

A process is disclosed for a continuous, high temperature polymerization process for preparing a free radically polymerized epoxy-functional polymeric product. The process comprises continuously charging into a reactor at least one epoxy-functional acrylic monomer, and optionally at least one non-functional free radical polymerizable monomer. An optional free radical polymerization initiator may also be added. The reactor is maintained at an effective temperature for an effective period of time to cause polymerization of the monomers into a polymeric product, such that the polymeric product is formed substantially free of gel particles. A clear coating is also disclosed incorporating polymers of the present invention, such that the clear coating has a low Delta b value at standard conditions.

Process for the continuous production of epoxylated addition polymers, and powder and liquid coating applications containing epoxylated addition polymers

A process is disclosed for a continuous, high temperature polymerization process for preparing a gel free polymeric product. The process comprises continuously charging into a reactor at least one monomer such that the reactor is filled to 100 percent of its usable volume. The reactor is maintained at an effective temperature for an effective period of time to cause polymerization of the monomers into a polymeric product, such that the polymeric product is formed substantially free of gel particles.

Process for the continuous production of gel free polymers, and powder and liquid coating applications containing gel free polymers

A process for preparing low molecular weight homomacromers and comacromers which includes (a) charging a reactor with (i) ethylenically unsaturated monomers selected from the group consisting of acrylic monomers or monoalkenyl aromatic monomers and (ii) if said ethylenically unsaturated monomer is not a thermally initiating monomer, a free radical polymerizable initiator, to form a polymerizable reaction charge. The reaction charge is heated during continuous mixing in the reactor to reaction temperature in the range from about 180&deg; C. to about 500&deg; C. for a residence time greater than 5 minutes to form the low molecular weight homomacromers or comacromers. If the residence time is 60 minutes or less, the reaction temperature is greater than 270&deg; C. and if the reaction charge is a mixture of acrylic monomer and monoalkenyl monomer and the residence time is 60 minutes or less then the reaction temperature is greater than 310&deg; C.

Process for the preparation of macromers

A method is provided for producing hyperbranched polymers comprising heating a polymerizable reaction charge comprising (a) a monomer mixture comprising 50-99.1% by weight of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer and 0.1-50% by weight of one or more multiethylenically unsaturated monomers and (b) if at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer of the monomer mixture is not a thermally initiating monomer, a free radical polymerization initiator, to a temperature in the range from about 250.degree. C. to about 400.degree. C. in a continuous reactor which allows mixing of the reactor contents for a residence time of from about 2 minutes to about 60 minutes, provided that if the total amount of multiethylenically unsaturated monomer is less than 3% by weight of the monomer mixture than at least one of said one or more multiethylenically unsaturated monomers must be tri- or greater ethylenically unsaturated. The hyperbranched polymers prepared by this process are also described.

Process for producing hyperbranched polymers

A process is disclosed for the continuous production, with reduced gel formation, of free radical addition polymers from ethylenically unsaturated monomers containing at least one free hydroxyl group such as 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, from about 0 to about 5% by weight of an alpha-beta unsaturated carboxylic acid such as acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and the remainder of the monomers used are free radical addition copolymerizable compounds such as styrene, methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate. The free radical addition polymerization is conducted at from about 150.degree. C. to about 310.degree. C. under superatmospheric pressure in the presence of one or more solvents. The solvent or the volume average of the solvent mixture has an overall calculated root mean square value of the hydrogen bonding and polar contributions of each solvent's solubility parameters in the range of from about 6 to about 15. The solvent or solvents in total have sufficient volatility under the conditions being used to conduct the polymerization such that any liquid condensate of vapor mixture forming on interior surfaces of the reactor equipment located above the surface of the monomer reactants contains at least 50 mole percent of the solvent to reduce gel formation on such interior surfaces. The process permits the continuous polymerization of the polymers over extended periods of time with reduced formation of gel particles and gel deposits.
