The present invention provides a method of increasing the deposition of aerosolized drug in the respiratory tract of an individual or animal, comprising the step of administering said aerosolized drug in an air mixture containing up to about 10% carbon dioxide gas.

Carbon dioxide enhancement of inhalation therapy

The small particle liposome aerosol compounds and methods of treatment of the present invention involve lipid- or water soluble anti-cancer drugs incorporated into liposomes. The liposomes are administered in aqueous dispersions from a jet nebulizer to the respiratory tract of an individual. Various anti-cancer drugs may be used, including 20-S-Camptothecin, 9-Nitro-camptothecin, 9-Amino-camptothecin, 10, 11-methylenedioxy-camptothecin and taxol or its derivatives. Administration of these drugs by inhalation provides faster and more efficient absorption of the anticancer drug than does intramuscular administration or oral administration.

Small particle liposome aerosols for delivery of anti-cancer drugs

The present invention provides a method of inhibiting growth of lung metastases in an individual comprising the steps of administering a dose of a lipid-drug enhancer liposomal complex and, in sequence, administering a dose of a lipid-anticancer drug liposomal complex. Furthermore, the lipid-drug enhancer liposomal complex may be administered in a continuing dose with the lipid-anticancer drug liposomal complex whereby both liposomal complexes are mixed in the nebulizer. Methods of inhibiting growth of lung metastases in an individual by the sequential administration via aerosolization of a dilauroylphosphatidylcholine-cyclosporin A liposomal complex and a dilauroylphosphatidylcholine-paclitaxel liposomal complex are also provided.

Aerosol drug inhibition of lung metastases

The present invention provides a liposomal aerosol composition, comprising a pharmaceutical compound, a cationic lipid, a neutral co-lipid; and tryptone. Also provided is a nebulized cationic lipid: neutral co-lipid: DNA suspension useful for lipid-DNA transfections, wherein the cationic lipid is bis(guanidinium)-tren-cholesterol and the neutral co-lipid is dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE).

Composition for treating cancer via liposomal aerosol formulation containing taxol

The present invention provides a liposomal aerosol composition, comprising a pharmaceutical compound, a cationic lipid, (c) a neutral co-lipid; and (d) tryptone. Also provided is a nebulized cationic lipid:DNA suspension useful for lipid-DNA transfections, wherein said cationic lipid is bis(guanidinium)-tren-cholesterol.

The present invention provides a high dose pharmaceutical liposome aerosol composition comprising about 12-30 mg/ml of a pharmaceutical compound, and about 130-375 mg of a phospholipid/ml starting reservoir concentration. Also provided is a high dose budesonide-liposome aerosol composition comprising up to about 15 mg/ml budesonide in up to about 225 mg of a phospholipid/ml starting reservoir concentration.
