An assembly for use with a syringe having a barrel and a needle includes a sealing element surrounding and positioned over at least a portion of the distal end of the syringe. An adapter at least partially surrounds the sealing element and is positioned over the distal end of the syringe. The adapter has a first skin contacting surface positioned at a distal end thereof. At least a portion of the first skin contacting surface extends generally parallel to at least a terminal end of the needle. The adapter also has a second skin contacting surface positioned proximally relative to the terminal end of the needle and at an angle to the first skin contacting surface. A needle shield at least partially surrounds and is removably positioned over at least one of the adapter, the sealing element and the syringe barrel.

A drug delivery device having a housing containing a gas generator controlled by an electronic controller. The gas generator generates gas into a reciprocable chamber, whereby reciprocation of the chamber causes a lever to reciprocate a pawl, and this action causes a ratchet to undergo incremental advancement. The device may also be provided with manual control for delivering a bolus dose of drug when necessary.

Drug delivery device

An intradermal injection assembly for injecting a medicament into skin could form an intradermal needle with an adapter, an intradermal syringe with an adapter or an adapter for a merger with a syringe with a cannula. The intradermal adapter in these devices has a body having a longitudinal axis, a central portion having a cannula channel and a distal protrusion extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis. The distal protrusion of the adapter has a first skin contacting surface extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis. At least a portion of the distal protrusion is generally transparent such that the portion of the cannula that extends distally relative to a demarcation plane can be viewed through the distal protrusion during insertion of the cannula into a patient's skin.

Intradermal injection adapter

An intradermal injection adapter includes a body having a longitudinal axis and a central portion located distally relative to the body along the longitudinal axis. The central portion has a cannula channel therethrough extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis. A cannula within the cannula channel has a sharpened tip for injection into a patient and a sharpened opposite proximal end for injection into a pen injector. A distal protrusion has a first skin contacting surface extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis. The first skin contacting surface is spaced from the cannula such that a distal portion of the cannula extends generally parallel to the first skin contacting surface.

Intradermal pen adapter

A medical injection device is provided which includes a shield system and a syringe. The shield system includes a housing, a shield telescopically received in the housing and slidably coupled to the housing and a driver that pushes the syringe stopper to cause drug injection. The driver is equipped with sensing elements that automatically detect empty syringe. A spring resiliently urges the shield from a retracted position to an extended position shielding the needle. The syringe is coupled to the housing. The shield is positioned externally to the syringe and the driver. The shield includes flexible latches to keep its position relative to the housing during storage and use. The axial movement of the driver in respect to the syringe causes an automatic release of the spring by sensors when the syringe is empty, allowing the spring to move and lock the shield in the extended position after use.

Syringe with automatically triggered safety sleeve

Devices and methods for intradermal (ID) administration of diagnostic and therapeutic agents, vaccines and other compounds into the dermal layer of the skin are disclosed. The devices and the methods simplify the ID injection process and increase the consistency of the placement of the needle tip in the dermal space close to the skin surface allowing for a shallow cannula placement in the dermis. Furthermore, the devices and methods broaden the number of sites suitable for ID injection and make the ID injection possible with limited training.

An injector is automatic in that the needle is inserted into the injection site (e.g., a patient's skin) with user or caregiver assistance, the delivery is automatically initiated upon needle insertion, and the needle is retracted automatically after the end of delivery. Preferably the needle is not seen by the user prior to, during or after injection. Prior to and after injection, the needle is hidden in the device so as to avoid any potential injury or health risk to the user or health care provider. The injector includes a housing and a shield arranged to slide relative to the housing and a driver moving during drug delivery. The housing and shield form a cartridge enclosure. The cartridge is shielded and locked after delivery is completed. A needle-locking mechanism can be used in any number of pen-like injectors or safety needles.

A drug delivery device having a base member defining a skin-contacting surface, a syringe serving as a reservoir for the drug, and means for expelling drug from the syringe. The syringe is connected to the base member such that the longitudinal axis of the syringe is substantially parallel to the skin surface. A delivery needle is in communication with the syringe. The needle has an angled bend which directs the tip of the needle substantially perpendicular to the skin-contacting surface. In use, the tip of the needle is adapted to penetrate the skin of the subject.

Pre-filled drug-delivery device and method of manufacture and assembly of same

A syringe comprises a barrel containing an internal cylindrical body containing a liquid and communicating with a delivery needle. The needle is covered before use by a removable sheath, and after the sheath is removed, the needle is concealed by a displaceable sleeve. In use the sleeve is pressed against the skin by applying pressure while holding the barrel. The sleeve is thereby retracted into the barrel allowing the needle to penetrate the skin. The movement of the sleeve also activates a gas generator which expels the liquid from the needle. When delivery is complete and the syringe is taken from the skin, a coil spring moves the sleeve back to the starting position again concealing the needle. The coil spring is torsionally biased before use and causes a rotational movement of the sleeve relative to the barrel when the sleeve moves into and out of the barrel. This rotational movement engages a locking mechanism which prevents further movement of the sleeve and thereby permanently conceals the needle.

Automatic syringe

A spike for facilitating the introduction of liquid under pressure into a container containing a substance is provided which includes an elongate spike shaft having a spike side wall, a longitudinal axis, a distal end and a proximally located end portion, where the distal end has a sharp, pointed tip. An introduction channel is located within the spike shaft for receiving liquid into the container where a portion of the introduction channel is angled to cause liquid to travel out of the introduction channel in a direction non-parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spike shaft. An extraction channel may be included within the spike shaft for removing liquid from the container, where the extraction channel extends through the elongate spike shaft towards the proximally located end portion.
