Laminates comprising at least one film and a nonwoven substrate, wherein the film comprises a polymeric composition comprising at least about 50% of one or more styrenic block copolymers, olefinic block copolymers, or combinations thereof; wherein the nonwoven substrate comprises at least one layer of spunbond material comprising ribbon-shaped fibers, wherein the laminate comprises ultrasonic bonds, thermal bonds, or combinations thereof and which have advantageous properties relative to a comparative laminate in which the nonwoven comprises non-ribbon shaped fibers.

Elastomeric films having low tear propagation

Multilayer thermoplastic films, and laminates and articles comprising the films, wherein the film comprises at least one inner layer and at least two outer layers, wherein the inner layer comprises a polymeric composition comprising from about 55% to about 95% of one or more non-hydrogenated styrenic block copolymers, olefinic block copolymers, or combinations thereof; and each outer layer comprises at least 20% polypropylene and has a thickness of from about 5% to about 15% of the total film thickness, and further wherein the film has a constant force tear propagation of about 20% or less.

Multilayer thermoplastic films, and laminates and articles comprising the films, wherein the film comprises at least one inner layer and at least two outer layers, wherein the inner layer comprises a polymeric composition comprising from about 55% to about 95% of one or more non-hydrogenated styrenic block copolymers, olefinic block copolymers, or combinations thereo; and each outer layer comprises at least 20% polypropylene and has a thickness of from about 5% to about 15% of the total film thickness, and further wherein the film has a constant force tear propagation of about 20% or less.

An absorbent article of the present invention may comprise a topsheet, an outer cover, and an absorbent core disposed therebetween. The outer cover may comprise an extrusion bonded laminate. The EBL may comprise a multi-layer coextruded elastomeric film and a nonwoven. The film may comprise a core layer, a first outer layer, and a second outer layer, wherein the core layer is between the first and second outer layers. The nonwoven may comprise fibers and/or filaments. The first outer layer may be non-adhesively joined to the nonwoven via extrusion coating. Further, the outer cover may be elastic to at least about 50% engineering strain. The nonwoven may have high chemical affinity for the first outer layer. The first outer layer may have a low chemical affinity for the core layer; and the multi-layer coextruded elastomeric film may have a basis weight no greater than about 40 gsm.

Extrusion bonded laminates for absorbent articles

Split-layer thermoplastic films having the structure A-(B-C)-B-A, wherein A and C are inelastic layers each having a thickness and each comprising individually at least one of polymeric compositions A and C; B is an elastic layer comprising polymeric composition B, n&#x2265;1, and wherein the layers comprising (B-C)-B have a combined thickness x, polymeric compositions A and C comprise an inelastic polymer; polymeric composition B comprises an elastomeric polymer; and the thickness of C comprises 5% or less of the total thickness of the film; and further wherein the film has a notched Elmendorf tear strength of at least twice the notched Elmendorf tear strength of a comparative thermoplastic film having the structure A-B-A, wherein A and B comprise substantially the same polymeric compositions A and B as the thermoplastic film, and wherein the B-layer of the comparative thermoplastic film has a thickness y which is substantially equal to x.

Elastomeric films having increased tear resistance

An absorbent article of the present invention may comprise a topsheet, an outer cover, and an absorbent core disposed therebetween. The outer cover may comprise an extrusion bonded laminate. The EBL may comprise a multi-layer coextruded elastomeric film and a nonwoven. The film may comprise a core layer, a first outer layer, and a second outer layer, wherein the core layer is between the first and second outer layers. The nonwoven may comprise fibers and/or filaments. The first outer layer may be non-adhesively joined to the nonwoven via extrusion coating. Further, the outer cover may be elastic to at least about 50% engineering strain. The nonwoven may have high chemical affinity for the first outer layer. The first outer layer may have a low chemical affinity for the core layer. And, the first outer layer may comprise an amount of draw down polymer greater than about 45 wt %.

Some embodiments of the present invention include elastomeric films with a basis weight of about 40 gsm or less or about 25 gsm or less. Other embodiments include elastomeric laminates comprising the elastomeric film bonded to one or more substrates (such as nonwoven fabrics). Methods of making the elastomeric films and elastomeric laminates are also provided.

Elastomeric materials

Some embodiments of the present invention include elastomeric films with a basis weight of about 40 gsm or less or about 25 gsm or less. Other embodiments include elastomeric laminates comprising the elastomeric film bonded to one or more substrates (such as nonwoven fabrics). Methods of the making the elastomeric films and elastomeric laminates are also provided.

Absorbent articles in which the outer cover has an extrusion bonded laminate.

A nonblocking multilayer elastomeric-film comprises a first brittle polymer film layer bonded to a second elastomeric polymer film layer. The multilayer film is activatable to fracture the first brittle polymer layer and to render the multilayer film elastomeric.
