A opening and closing device for sunroofs of an automobile, which has a pair of rails and , a lid for opening and closing an opening , right and left cables engaged to a lid and arranged along the rails and , and a drive mechanism for driving the cables in a reciprocating manner. The cables construct a closed loop arrangement with bypassing the opening of the loof of the automobile. One of the cable coming out of the drive mechanism is arranged to the right-side rails , bridged to the left side lail , reversed at the base end of the left side lail and returned along the same route to the drive mechanism
