An inorganic coating composition which is incombustible, water resistant and durable comprises an aqueous dispersion of colloidal silica (A), laminar aluminum oxide and/or a luminum hydroxide (B), water-soluble amino-alcohol (C), and one or more members selected from the group consisting of metallic zinc, zinc compounds and oxides and hydroxides of alkaline earth metals (D). The molar ratios of said component (C) to component (A) and said component (D) to component (A) are in the range of 0.01/1.0 to 1.0/1.0 and the weight ratio of said colloidal silica to colloidal silica plus water in said coating composition is not less than 0.1.

Inorganic coating composition

Inorganic coating compositions with alkali silicate comprising a viscous aqueous suspension which is obtained by heating above 50.degree. C. the mixture comprising an aqueous 10-50 weight percent solution of alkali silicate and 5-300 weight percent (vs. the solid component in said 10-50 weight percent aqueous solution) of amorphous silica powder hardenable upon application of a hardener solution comprising a surface tension reducing agent and an aqueous solution of at least one compound selected from phosphoric acid, phosphates, chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, fluorosilicates and ammonium persulfate.

Inorganic coating compositions with alkali silicate

A nonflammable binder composition having good properties, such as excellent adhesiveness, flexibility, storage stability and nonflammability, comprises a water-soluble silicate and a vinyl polymer emulsion which is prepared by emulsion polymerization of polymerizable vinyl monomer using, as an emulsifying agent, a neutralization product of water-soluble resin containing carboxyl groups.

Nonflammable binder composition

An improved silicate-phosphate type inorganic coating composition having a long pot life or shelf life is provided which comprises a water soluble silicate or modified silicate and an inorganic phosphate pretreated with such silicate.
