A method for generating output laser pulses from input laser pulses includes causing the input laser pulses to temporally successively pass through an optical component with temperature-dependent power efficiency. The optical component is heated by the passing of the input laser pulses. The input laser pulses emerge from the optical component as output laser pulses. The method further includes calculating a current temperature or a current temperature difference of the optical component, or a temperature-dependent current parameter based on all preceding input laser pulses or output laser pulses that have contributed to the heating of the optical component, and setting a power of a current input laser pulse based on the calculated current temperature, or the calculated current temperature difference, or the calculated current parameter, so that an associated output laser pulse has a pulse energy that deviates from a predefined pulse energy by less than 5%.

Beam adaptation devices are disclosed for variable-astigmatic adjustment of electromagnetic radiation propagating along a beam axis of the beam adaptation device. The devices include a first astigmatism lens unit, which provides at least one first lens tiltable with respect to the beam axis for astigmatism adjustment, a divergence matching lens unit with a second lens for adjusting the divergence, wherein the distance between the second lens and the first lens along the beam axis is adjustable, and a second astigmatism lens unit with at least one third lens tiltable with respect to the beam axis for astigmatism adjustment. To adjust the magnitude of the electromagnetic radiation on the third lens, the distance between the second lens and the third lens along the beam axis is adjustable. The beam adaptation device can be used, for example, for astigmatic pre-compensation in frequency conversion.

Methods and devices for expanding a laser beam are provided. In one aspect, a device includes a telescope arrangement having two spherical folding mirrors for expanding an incident collimated laser beam with a lens arranged in the divergent beam path downstream of the telescopic arrangement. The two spherical folding mirrors in the beam path are a first, convex-curved spherical folding mirror and a second, concave-curved spherical folding mirror, respectively. The lens has a spherical lens face for collimating the expanded laser beam from the telescope arrangement. The laser beam can be an ultraviolet (UV) laser beam.
