An extracorporeal cardiac assistance system, comprising a pump being configured to create a fluid flow from a suction line to a pressure line of the system; further comprising a control device configured to control the pump and/or an adjustable flow limiter to provide an adjustable flow rate and/or a pressure, wherein the control device is configured to execute a support mode with a plurality of consecutive support flow rate pulses and/or support pressure pulses interposed on the fluid flow and to execute a weaning mode with a plurality of such pulses, wherein an amount of energy provided to the fluid flow with each pulse is lower in the weaning mode than in the support mode.

The invention relates to a cannula comprising a tip and an outlet, the cannula having a reduction in the internal diameter, which reduction is designed as a conically tapering tip the end of which has a length that is shorter than the internal diameter of the adjoining portion of the cannula.

An assembly for an extracorporeal life support system with a suction line that features a venous cannula and a pressure line that features an arterial cannula furthermore includes a pump that is arranged between the suction line and the pressure line. This assembly has a discharge line with a discharge cannula, wherein the discharge cannula is longer than the arterial cannula, and wherein the discharge line is connected to the suction line or the pressure line.
