A method is disclosed for controlling the brakes of a vehicle combination that includes a tractor vehicle and at least one trailer vehicle. A brake control valve in the tractor vehicle has magnetic switching valves that controlled by an electronic control unit, including an inlet valve and an outlet valve. To determine a current trailer status, it is determined whether the tractor vehicle is connected to a trailer vehicle and/or the line volume of the brake control line. A target pressure to be produced in the brake control line is specified and is produced by pulse-like opening of the inlet valve and/or the outlet valve. The brake control pressure in the brake control line is measured during the pressure build-up of pressure and a characteristic value for the trailer status and/or for the line volume of the brake control line is determined.

A method of brake control of a vehicle combination () composed of a tractor vehicle () with an electronically controlled braking system () and a trailer vehicle () with a pneumatically controlled pneumatic braking system (), involves introducing the brake control pressure (p) of the trailer vehicle () into a tractor brake control line () extending to a tractor vehicle-side 'brake' coupling head () via an electronically controlled trailer control valve () of the tractor vehicle (). At the beginning of a braking operation, a pressure pulse () exceeding a target brake control pressure (p) is introduced into the tractor brake control line (). The volume of a trailer brake control line () coupled to the “brake” coupling head () is ascertained, and the absolute value (Δp) and/or the duration (Δt) of the pressure pulse () introduced are/is established depending on the ascertained volume.

Method for the brake control of a vehicle combination

A valve arrangement () of a tractor vehicle () for controlling a pneumatic brake system of a trailer vehicle () includes a trailer control valve () with a reservoir pressure input (p) for the introduction of reservoir compressed air and a reservoir pressure output (p) for the controlled discharge of reservoir compressed air. The reservoir pressure output is pneumatically connected to a 'reservoir' coupling head () of the tractor vehicle. A shut-off and ventilation valve () is arranged in a reservoir pressure line () upstream of the “reservoir” coupling head. Before connecting an associated coupling head of the trailer vehicle () to the “reservoir” coupling head of the tractor vehicle, the feed of reservoir compressed air to the “reservoir” coupling head can be shut off to ventilate the “reservoir” coupling head. Valve arrangement of a towing vehicle for controlling a pneumatic brake system of a trailer vehicle and a method for controlling it

A method includes steps for controlling a pneumatic braking system of a trailer vehicle which is connected to a tow vehicle equipped with a hydraulic or pneumatic braking system. At the start of an actuation of the foot brake valve, an electrical switch is closed or opened, and a switching signal is transmitted to an electronic control unit as a braking start signal for an incipient braking process. A brake value sensor detects a brake value representative of the drivers current deceleration request and transmits the brake value to the electronic control unit as a brake value signal. The brake value sensor is used for determining the incipient braking process, and a backup valve is only deactivated by switching a redundancy valve from an open position to a blocking position if the brake value signal detected by the brake value sensor has reached or exceeded a predefined minimum signal value.
