A technique facilitates control of fluid flows in a wide variety of applications and environments, including downhole well environments. The technique utilizes a valve system which may include a shear seal valve for controlling fluid flows. The valve system utilizes port arrangements, components for energizing shear seals between mating components, and/or actuating components with improved degrees of freedom. The components facilitate repeatable and consistent actuation and operation of the valve system in the wide variety of applications and environments.

Shear valve system and methodology

A shear valve utilizing an elastically responsive unibody seal member in operation. The unibody seal member is of unitary constriction and in terms of adjacent ends thereof and an energizing member disposed therebetween. Thus, governing of fluid flow through the metal valve may be achieved without undue concern over high pressure differentials, for example in a downhole environment. Further, the unitary construction of the seal member alleviates concern over mismatching tolerances and/or dimensions for separately assembled miniaturized components of the valve.

Elastically responsive unibody shear valve

A technique facilitates controlling fluid flows, such as fluid flows in a downhole well zone or zones. A flow control valve is employed to control a fluid flow and is operationally linked with an injection valve. Actuation of the flow control valve is used to automatically actuate the injection valve between corresponding positions allowing or blocking fluid injection. Closing or opening of the flow control valve thus results in a desired corresponding action of the injection valve, such as blocking flow or allowing flow through the injection valve.

Chemical injection system

A hydraulically balanced multiple drop well completion has a plurality of hydraulic control lines each of which communicates hydraulic inputs and a plurality of hydraulically operated tools numbering greater than or equal to the number of hydraulic control lines. Each of the hydraulic control lines is connected to at least one of the hydraulically operated tools to communicate hydraulic inputs to actuate the hydraulically operated tools. Each of the hydraulically operated tools discharges hydraulic fluid to one of the hydraulic control lines other than the hydraulic control line from which it receives the controlling hydraulic input.

Method and apparatus for multi-drop tool control

A technique facilitates monitoring of conditions which are prone to cause scale precipitation around downhole equipment. The technique also enables a local, downhole reaction to the potential for precipitation of scale. A downhole scale monitoring and inhibition system may be provided with a measurement module and injection module. The measurement module monitors at least one downhole parameter indicative of the potential for scale formation. In response to data output from the measurement module, the injection module is operated to provide downhole, local injections of an inhibitor chemical.

Continuous downhole scale monitoring and inhibition system

An apparatus that is usable with a well includes an operator and a generator. The operator is disposed in the well and configured to respond to a differential pressure between hydraulically isolated zones of the well to produce mechanical motion. The generator is disposed in the well to convert the mechanical motion into electricity. A method that is usable with a well is provided including maintaining hydraulic isolation between a first and second zone of a well. While maintaining the hydraulic isolation, the method further includes producing a mechanical motion in response to a differential pressure between the first and second zones and generating electricity in response to the mechanical motion.

Generating power in a well

Apparatus and methods for deploying one or more sensors into a wellbore. The method can include at least partially embedding one or more sensors in one or more swellable elements; conveying the one or more sensors and the one or more swellable elements into the wellbore; at least partially swelling one or more of the swellable elements; and measuring at least one wellbore property with the one or more sensors.

Instrumented swellable element

A hydraulic actuator is connected between a downhole tool and a hydraulic control line for operating the downhole tool through an actuation sequence. The hydraulic actuator comprises a valve shuttle section having an inlet port in connection with the hydraulic control line, a first function port and a second function port. The hydraulic actuator also has a shuttle movable between positions providing fluid communication between the inlet port and the first function port and the inlet port and the second function port. Additionally, the hydraulic actuator has a pilot assembly in fluid connection with the hydraulic control line and in operational connection with the shuttle. The pilot assembly is movable in response to an actuation cycle comprising applying pressure from the hydraulic control line and bleeding the pressure off.

A choke that is usable with a well includes an inlet port and an outlet port. The choke also includes pressure drop stages between the inlet port and the outlet port. Each of the pressure drop stages is adapted to create part of an overall pressure differential between the inlet and outlet ports.

Flow control device

A technique is provided to temporarily protect well system components during transport, movement downhole and/or initial downhole operations. A sacrificial material is formed as a protective sacrificial element disposed proximate susceptible well system components. The protective sacrificial element is at least partially dissolvable in fluids within a wellbore to facilitate removal of the element after a desired time period. Once the temporary, protective sacrificial element is removed, the protected well system component is fully operable.

System and method for protecting downhole components during deployment and wellbore conditioning

A rechargeable hydraulic accumulator is provided in a wellbore, and a component is actuated by discharging the hydraulic accumulator. The hydraulic accumulator is recharged by increasing pressure in a fluid conduit.
