An infrared sensitive silver halide photographic element is disclosed comprising a support and at least one silver halide emulsion layer spectrally sensitized to the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. In particular, an infrared sensitive color photographic element, capable of providing full color images without exposure to corresponding visible radiation, is disclosed, said element comprising at least three silver halide emulsion layers on a substrate, each associated with different photographic color image forming materials, such as color couplers capable of forming dyes of different colors upon reaction with an oxidized color photographic developer, diffusing dyes, bleachable dyes, or oxidized leuco dyes. The three emulsion layers are sensitized to three different portions of the electromagnetic spectrum with at least two layers sensitized to different regions of the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The infrared sensitive element is characterized in that at least one infrared sensitized emulsion layer is associated with a 1-aryl-5-mercaptotetrazole compound substituted in the aryl group by at least one electron-attracting group. The infrared sensitive photographic element has high sensitivity to infrared radiation and undergoes less change in sensitivity during storage.

The present invention refers to a silver halide photographic element containing a support having coated thereon at least a silver halide emulsion layer spectrally sensitized with a sensitizing dye according to the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein Z represents the atoms necessary to complete a 6-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic nucleus; at least 2 members of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 --but not R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together--represent an organic group carrying a water-solubilizing group in free acid form, in salt form or in latent form, and are same or different, the members of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 that do not represent a said organic radical carrying a water-solubilizing group represent hydrogen, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or an aryl group; and n is 0 or 1. The silver halide photographic material has the advantage to have a broad sensitivity in the red portion of the spectrum. It can be exposed to laser beam sources in the range of 600-700 nm.

An infrared sensitive silver halide photographic element which contains a dye represented by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represent a sulfoalkyl or a sulfatoalkyl group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, Q represents the atoms necessary to complete a 5- or 6-membered carbocyclic ring group, R.sub.3 represents an alkyl group, R.sub.4 represents an aryl group, X.sup.- represents an anion, n is an integer of 1 or 2, provided that that n is 1 when the dye forms an intramolecular salt, and Z.sub.1 and Z.sub.2 each independently represent the atoms necessary to complete an indole nucleus.

The three emulsion layers are sensitized to three different portions of the electromagnetic spectrum with at least one layer sensitized to radiation within the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The infrared sensitive element is characterized in that at least one infrared sensitized emulsion layer is associated with a 5-arylamino-1,2,3,4-thiatriazole compound wherein the aryl group has at least one electron-attracting group substituent. The infrared sensitive color photographic element having an effective amount of said compound therein has high sensitivity to infrared radiation and undergoes less change in sensitivity during storage.

A multilayer silver halide color photographic element comprising at least one blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer comprising a blue spectral sensitizing dye and a supersensitizing amount of a disulfide compound of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, equal or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R.sub.5 represents a hydrogen atom, a formyl group or an acetyl group, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7, equal or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, or R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 represent the elements needed to complete an unsaturated cyclic nucleus. The combination provides a blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having high sensitivity, low fog and good resistance against fading of the latent image.
