A method includes receiving a subscription request to obtain notifications of events pertaining to the data file that has been previously uploaded by a user account associated with a user device and stored at the cloud-based file system. The subscription request identifies a destination address for the notifications generated in accordance with the subscription request and one or more events, among multiple events, corresponding to the data file that are to prompt the notifications to be transmitted to the destination address associated with the networked device. The method includes determining that the subscription request is authorized, and identifying an occurrence of an event from the one or more events specified in the subscription request and involving the data file. The method includes transmitting to the destination address a notification indicating the occurrence of the event involving the data file.

Systems and methods for providing notifications of changes in a cloud-based file system

A subscription request to obtain notifications of actions pertaining to the data file that has been previously stored at the cloud-based file system is received. The subscription request identifies the networked device and a set of actions to the data file that are to prompt the notifications to be transmitted to the networked device. An occurrence of an action is identified from the set of actions specified in the subscription request and involving the data file. Responsive to identifying the occurrence of the action from the set of actions involving the data file and in view of the subscription request identifying the networked device, a notification indicating the occurrence of the action involving the data file is transmitted to the networked device.

A cloud storage system provides remote access to a file associated with the cloud storage system. In response to a request to access the file, the cloud storage system identifies applications available to the request generator and capable of accessing the file, which may include both online web-based applications and applications installed on a device with which the user is accessing the file. The cloud storage system determines an application type of an identified application, and provides file access to the identified application based on the application type.

System and method for detecting and integrating with native applications enabled for web-based storage

A cloud-based file system receives a subscription request associated with a networked device and identifying a set of one or more resources of the cloud-based file system and a set of one or more resource modifications. The cloud-based file system determines whether the networked device is authorized to access the resource, and, if so, records a subscription based on the subscription request. In response to a user, an application, or other suitable entity making a modification in the set of modifications to a resource in the set of resources, the cloud-based file system generates a notification to the networked device and to other networked devices with subscriptions that include the modification to the resource. The notification may identify the subscription with which the notification is associated, provide information identifying the modification, or provide other suitable information.

Systems and methods disclosed herein relate to a method of storing metadata for a file on a cloud based storage system. A server may receive a request from a third party application to store metadata for a file. The server may determine a metadata type based on the request. The server may associate the metadata value with an application identifier. The application identifier may identify a third party application. The server may store the metadata value based on the determined metadata type. The stored metadata may be associated with the application identifier and the stored metadata value may include information related to an anchor. The anchor may be an attribute of the file, and anchor can change respectively as the attribute changes.

One of the methods includes receiving a user context of a user, wherein the user context specifies a location of a user device being used by the user. Data that represents counts of websites visited by users matching the user context is obtained. Data that represents counts of websites visited by users in general is obtained. Using the obtained counts, one or more likely websites visited by users matching the user context more frequently than by users in general is determined. Information identifying the one or more likely websites in response to receiving the user context is provided.
