A wireless multimode system includes: an array of N antenna elements that includes a first portion of M antenna elements and a second portion of L antenna elements; M transmission amplifiers configured to transmit, via the M antenna elements, frames of transmit data, where the frames of transmit data include transmit radar signals and transmit communication signals; M reception amplifiers configured to receive, via the M antenna elements, frames of receive data, where the frames of receive data includes receive communication signals; and L reception amplifiers configured to receive, via the L antenna elements, receive radar signals; and a resource scheduler configured to allocate bandwidth for transmit radar signals and transmit communication signals within the frames of transmit data based on one or more predetermined parameters.

In an embodiment, a millimeter-wave system includes a first circuit having M channels, one or more antennas coupled to the first circuit, and a controller that includes a resource scheduler module. The controller is configured to operate the millimeter-wave system as a radar device and as a communication device based on an output of the resource scheduler module.

Calibration of active phased array system using beamforming RFIC built-in-test equipment

A method for calibration in a phased array antenna includes generating, by a master clock, a reference clock signal and generating an output signal corresponding to the reference clock signal by a phase-locked loop. The method further includes generating, by a local oscillator (LO), an LO signal corresponding to the output signal and generating a transmit calibration tone corresponding to a leakage of the LO signal and a direct current signal by an in-phase and quadrature (IQ) modulator. The method further includes receiving, by a phase detector in each of a plurality of RF devices in the phased array antenna, the transmit calibration tone and determining a relative phase shift between the transmit calibration tone and the reference clock signal received at an input of each of the plurality of RF devices by the phase detector.

A method of operating a radio frequency (RF) module includes filtering, by a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) band-pass filter, an RF signal propagating between an antenna and an interface structure. The antenna is disposed at a first side of a substrate. The interface structure is disposed at a second side of the substrate opposite the first side The SIW band-pass filter is disposed within the substrate between the antenna and the interface structure. The method of operating the RF module further includes transferring, by the interface structure, the RF signal between the SIW band-pass filter and an RF front end circuit.
