A system includes a transducer array configured to obtain ultrasound data of a subject; a processor in communication with the transducer array and a therapeutic device configured to deliver a therapy to the subject, wherein the processor is configured to: receive the ultrasound data; identify an anatomical feature of the subject using the ultrasound data; compute a measure associated with the anatomical feature; determine if the measure satisfies a threshold; determine a change in an operating status of the therapeutic device based on if the measure satisfies the threshold; and output, to the therapeutic device, a control signal representative of the change in the operating status. Associated methods, devices, and systems are also provided.

Ultrasound-based closed-loop control of patient therapy

An interface unit () for connecting between an ultrasound sensing apparatus () and a patient monitor () for providing ultrasound monitoring functionality of one or more physiological or anatomical parameters based on processing of ultrasound data. The interface unit includes means for processing acquired ultrasound data to derive measurements of one or more physiological or anatomical parameters and is configured for outputting said derived measurements to a coupled patient monitor unit, e.g. for display and/or trending by the patient monitor.

System and method for joint clinical decision for pharmaceuticals

An apparatus includes an imaging probe and is configured for dynamically arranging presentation of visual feedback for guiding manual adjustment, via the probe, of a location, and orientation, associated with the probe. The arranging is selectively based on comparisons between fields of view of the probe and respective results of segmenting image data acquired via the probe. In an embodiment, the apparatus includes a sensor which guides a decision that acoustic coupling quality is insufficient, the apparatus issuing a user alert upon the decision.

Anatomically intelligent echochardiography for point-of-care

An apparatus includes an imaging probe and is configured for dynamically arranging presentation of visual feedback for guiding manual adjustment, via the probe, of a location, and orientation, associated with the probe. The arranging is selectively based on comparisons between fields of view of the probe and respective results of segmenting image data acquired via the probe. In an embodiment, the feedback does not include a grayscale depiction of the image data. Coordinate system transformations corresponding to respective comparisons may be computed. The selecting may be based upon and dynamically responsive to content of imaging being dynamically acquired via the probe.

Anatomically intelligent echocardiography for point-of-care

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system and method enable the automatic acquisition of standard view planes of the heart in real time, such as the AP4, AP3, and AP2 views. A 3D image of the heart is acquired and the processed in conjunction with a geometrical heart model. The heart model is fitted to the heart in its acquired pose to segment the desired image planes from the 3D image data. During successive image acquisition intervals the image planes are tracked through successive image data as a multi-plane system to update a display of the multiple images. The successive image acquisitions can be volume image acquisitions or multi-plane acquisitions of just the tracked image planes during each acquisition interval.

Automated segmentation of tri-plane images for real time ultrasonic imaging

An ultrasound system for planning a surgical implantation of a prosthetic aortic valve produces three dimensional images of the aortic root region of a patient. An electronic model of an aortic root is accessed and fitted to the aortic root in a three dimensional ultrasound image. Preferably the aortic root model exhibits closed contour cross-sections which are fitted to the endothelial lining of the aortic root in the ultrasound image. A medial axis of the fitted model is identified and radii measured from the medical axis to the border of the fitted model. The radii are joined to identify a surface forming a mesh model fitted to the aortic root anatomy of the patient. The shape and dimensions of the fitted model may be used to fabricate a custom prosthetic valve for aortic valve replacement.

A method includes obtaining an electrical signal that includes a set of at least two sensed physiologic measurements of a patient, comparing the at least two physiologic measurements with a predetermined physiologic measurement range, identifying data required to determine a probability and a severity of a condition of interest of the patient, in response to determining the at least two physiologic measurements do not satisfy the physiologic measurement range, receiving the identified data in electronic format, determining a first probability and a first severity of the condition of interest based on the received identified data, determining a recommended course of action for the patient based on the first probability and the first severity, resources of a healthcare facility, and an event guideline; and causing a display to visually present the first probability and first severity and the recommended course of action.

Clinical decision support system based triage decision making

An ultrasonic imaging system produces a sequence of images of the heart during a cardiac cycle. The images are analyzed to determine the motion, displacement, or change in size of segments of the myocardium. In a preferred embodiment the values determined are radial, longitudinal, or circumferential myocardial strain values. The displacement of the myocardial segments may be tracked during the cardiac cycle by speckle tracking or border detection. The motion, displacement, or change in size values for the segments are analyzed to produce a recruitment curve and anatomical display showing the relative times of recruitment of the different segments in the contractile and relaxation motion of the heart. Participation in and achievement of full recruitment may be determined by comparison against an initial recruitment threshold criterion and against a predetermine maximal recruitment milestone level.

Ultrasonic assessment of cardiac synchronicity and viability

An autostereoscopic display, which provides a depth perception by providing a viewer's left and right eyes () with two slightly different perspectives of an image to be displayed, is provided for ultrasound guided interventions with a surgical instrument (). The surgeon watches displayed ultrasound data (), rendered for at least two views. The plane at which those views (L, R) intersect is adjusted to correspond exactly with the tracked three-dimensional position within a displayed scene of the surgical instrument (), which position can be extracted from the three-dimensional ultrasound data by means of, for example, 3D object recognition. Thus, the point of reconstruction of the image presented to the viewer can be dynamically adjusted to correspond with the position of the surgical instrument on which the surgeon's eyes are presumed to be focused.

Autostereoscopic display

An ultrasound system and method are described for assessing cardiac performance which is particularly useful for diagnosing heart remodeling. A 3D data set of a surface of the heart is acquired and the principal curvatures determined at one or more points of the surface. A curvature metric is produced which is the difference of the two principal curvatures at each point. Metrics produced from the heart surface acquired at systole have been found to correlate strongly with ejection fraction.

3D echocardiographic shape analysis

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging method and system are described for detecting abnormalities in the synchronicity of heart wall stimulation. Points on opposite sides of a chamber of the heart are identified in a starting ultrasound image, then tracked through at least a portion of the heart cycle. The changing positions of lines extending between pairs of the points are accumulated and displayed in a color kinesis display in which each color depicts the location of a line at a particular point in the cardiac cycle. In an illustrated example the points are tracked through the cardiac cycle by speckle tracking of the speckle pattern of the adjacent myocardial tissue, tracking specific anatomy, or tracking tissue texture.

Ultrasonic diagnosis of myocardial synchronization

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system is described which acquires 3D data sets of the heart including the myocardium. The epicardial and endocardial surfaces of the myocardium in the data sets are identified by automated or semi-automated border detection. A 3D image of the myocardium is produced from the defined surfaces. The 3D image illustrates the wall thickness of the myocardium and can be segmented into defined regions, with quantified measures made for each defined region.
