An fresh air/exhaust gas compact mixer and method for mixing fresh air with exhaust gases, is provided. The mixer includes a main body, an air inlet for receiving fresh air fluidly connected to an air intake passage within the main body, an exhaust gas inlet for receiving exhaust fluidly connected to an exhaust gas passage within the main body. The mixer also includes a bifurcation within the air intake passage for directing the flow of air through the passage, wherein the bifurcation decreases a cross section of the air intake passage downstream from the air inlet, thereby increasing the air velocity exiting the air intake passage. The narrowed cross section creates a localized vacuum, encouraging an increased flow of exhaust gas through the mixer, and creating superior mixing of the fresh air with the exhaust gases prior to exiting the mixer.

Exhaust gas recirculation

A water pump apparatus is provided having a plurality of modular components, which allows for construction of various configurations of the water pump apparatus depending on specific vehicle requirements. The water pump apparatus modular components include a pump housing with a fluid chamber formed therein, a bearing housing for attachment to the pump housing, and a thermostat housing for connecting to the bearing housing and the pump housing. A method for forming modular components for assembling a water pump apparatus for use in an internal combustion engine is also provided.

Modular water pump

A fuel injector clamp and method of clamping a fuel injector includes clamp members each including a central body with a concaved section and two horizontally offset passageways. Clamp members are oppositely oriented such that the concaved section forms a region adapted to engage a fuel injector. Offset passageways are aligned such that a top passageway of one member is aligned with a bottom passageway of the opposing member. A fastening mechanism is passed through a first pair of aligned passageways to form a hinge, allowing clamp members to pivot about the hinge so a fuel injector can be disposed between the concaved sections. Members are then pivoted towards each other to close the clamp assembly; a second fastening mechanism is passed through a second pair of aligned offset passageways to lock the injector into place.

A mount () for mounting an exhaust gas component () in an exhaust pipe () or in a component housing includes a spring band () and a plurality of spring fingers (). The spring band () is configured to contact and substantially pass around an outer surface () of the exhaust gas component (). The plurality of spring fingers () extend from the spring band () generally axially with respect to the exhaust gas component () and generally radially from the spring band. The spring fingers () contact the exhaust gas component ().

Mount for exhaust system components

An induction system for an internal combustion engine includes an upper intake for receiving air from a supply, such as a turbocharger, and a lower intake which combines a cylinder valve actuator cover, a plenum for receiving air from the upper intake, and a number of intake runners which extend across, an integrally with, the cylinder valve actuator cover to cylinder head intake ports which are configured at outboard sides of the engine cylinder head.

Induction system for internal combustion engine

An air inlet system for an internal combustion engine includes an air inlet duct for drawing charge air into a charge air processor, and an intake manifold system leading from the charge air processor to the power cylinders of the engine. A resonator which suppresses pressure pulses within the inlet duct is mounted to the intake manifold system, but fluidically connected to the air inlet duct, and not to the intake manifold system.

Air inlet system for internal combustion engine

An air supply system for a reciprocating internal combustion engine includes an air inlet and a mixing volute for receiving charge air from the air inlet. The mixing volute is configured to impart swirl in a first direction to charge air passing from the air inlet and into the volute. An EGR injector introduces exhaust gas into charge air passing through the mixing volute, with the EGR injector being configured to impart swirl in a direction which is opposite to the swirl produced by the mixing volute. This causes the EGR gases and the charge air to become thoroughly mixed within a very short path length through the mixing volute.

Air supply system for an internal combustion engine

An air inlet system for an internal combustion engine includes an inlet duct for furnishing air to the engine's cylinders, and a combination port formed within the inlet duct for inducting both recirculated exhaust gas and charge air into the engine. Mixing of the recirculated exhaust gas and the charge air is promoted by a flow director which is mounted at a downstream end of an EGR supply passage, as well as by a flow guide mounted upstream from the flow director, with the flow guide including an aerodynamic projection for causing charge air to move smoothly around the flow director and a swirl generator.
