A system and method to inspect and monitor stress, strain, leakage, corrosion and disjointing of rigid metallic and non-metallic connector fittings used to join sections of non-metallic flexible reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP), as well as inspecting and monitoring the structural health of RTP in the area of connections with casement shields concentrically mounted on and adhered to the outer surface of the RTP at or adjacent to connection with a rigid connector fitting, monitoring sensors installed in the casement shields, a management system for receiving, processing and transmitting information gathered from the sensors via SCADA or other computerized means for monitoring and regulating strain impact, determining stress level and direction, potential leaks and temperature spikes at connector fitting areas, and a mechanism for acoustical detection or simulation, with a computer system for receiving, processing and transmitting information gathered from acoustical micro packs on the casement shields.

A device and method to mitigate transient events in a transported medium of fluids and gases subjected to surges, and over pressure events caused by the transient state of a transported medium in a continuous pipeline, where the device has one or more concentrically positioned multilayered composite pipes encased in an outer spool pipe with an annulus space between the spool pipe and the multilayered composite pipes, with flanged adaptors at each end of the device for inline installation in a pipeline, with a management system for receiving, processing and transmitting information gathered in combination with existing pipeline monitoring, and acoustical detection system for receiving and processing of acoustic transmission due to an acoustical wave. Mitigation of pressure events is achieved by energy dissipation and expansion of the multilayered composite pipes and reduction of amplification of pressure waves is achieved by initiation of active counter waves by expansion of the multilayered composite pipes to sinusoidal shape.

A thermoplastic pipe liner assembly and method for installation in a pipeline by pulling the pipe liner assembly through the pipeline in a temporarily folded condition wherein the thermoplastic pipe liner assembly has a core inner liner, an outer liner with optional grooving for annular communication, orbitally wound strength and intermediate layers, two or more tension deformation members to sustain the tension needed to pull the pipe liner assembly through the pipeline for several miles and to assist in maintaining the temporarily folded condition. Also included are optional instrumentation circuits. Also disclosed is a method for the manufacture of the pipe liner assembly and concurrent installation in a pipeline.

Pipe liner apparatus and method

A thermoplastic liner is extruded in cylindrical form and deformed at a temperature below the crystallization temperature of the polyethylene material forming the liner into a generally W-shaped configuration. The liner in that configuration has three convex lobes and two concave lobes along one side of the liner with a convex portion of the liner wall along the opposite side. The cylindrical liner is initially extruded in cylindrical form and deformed by a series of axially spaced sets of rollers progressively inclined toward a vertical position wherein the final W-shaped configuration of the liner is formed. The liner has a cross-section in any direction less than one-half of the diameter of the liner when expanded into a cylindrical configuration. The deformed liner is coiled about a reel. At an installation site, the liner is pulled from the reel through the pipe and sealed at opposite ends. Steam under pressure expands the W-shaped liner to a cylindrical configuration to line the pipe.

Pipe liner, a coiled liner product and methods for forming, installing

A generally U-shaped lateral liner having a radially outwardly directed flange at its proximal end is drawn through a main pipe into a lateral pipe to be lined. A generally U-shaped main pipe liner is drawn through the main pipe to be lined, with a side wall portion overlying the radial flange of the lateral liner. Steam is supplied to reform the main liner into a generally cylindrical configuration into conformance with the interior walls of the main pipe. A pair of packers are disposed in the lined main pipe on opposite sides of the lateral pipe and a ball-like member with surface grooves is provided between the packers. Upon application of steam to the region between the packers, the steam raptures the side wall portion of the main liner, causing the ball to seat in the opening. Steam flow along the grooves at high velocity causes heat transfer to the abutting main and lateral liners to fuse the liners one to the other. Steam supplied through the grooves also reforms the lateral liner. In another form, the lateral liner and main liner may be fused together by electrofusion processes wherein electrical heating wires are provided on the flange. After fusion, a cutter cuts through the wise wall portion to form the opening between the lined main and lateral pipes.

Method for lining lateral and main pipes

A method for installing plastic liners in pipes includes the steps of providing a plurality of cylindrical tubular liners of plastic material of predetermined diameters. Ribs extend radially between the liners. The liners are deformed or collapsed to reduced overall diameters. The liners are introduced into the pipe. The cylindrical shapes of the liners in the pipe are then restored with the ribs spacing the liners one from the other.
