In an image display device which has an image display panel, in which two or more groups of particles or liquid powders having different colors and different charge characteristics are sealed between opposed two substrates, at least one of two substrates being transparent, and, in which the particles or the liquid powders, to which an electrostatic field produced by a pair of electrodes provided on one substrate or both substrates respectively is applied, are made to move so as to display an image, a chip for transmitting a drive signal to the image display panel is arranged in the substrate (first aspect of the invention), or, the two substrates are constructed by a transparent substrate and the pair of electrodes are constructed by a transparent electrode (second aspect of the invention).

Electromagnetic-wave shielding and light transmitting plate and manufacturing method thereof

In the image display device according to the first aspect of the invention, a liquid powder composed of a solid material stably floating as a dispersant in a gas and exhibiting a high fluidity in an aerosol state is sealed between opposed substrates, at least one substrate being transparent, and the liquid powder is moved. To manufacture an electromagnetic-wave shielding and light transmitting plate having a conductive pattern of which line width is narrow and open area ratio is high, a resin patternis printed on a transparent filmhaving a low affinity for a plated layer by using a resin having a high affinity for the plated layer. Then, a conductive material layer is formed by electroless plating on the resin patternof the film, thereby forming the conductive pattern. After that, the blackening treatment is conducted, thereby obtaining the electromagnetic-wave shielding and light transmitting plate.

A display panel such as a plasma display panel is provided in which an electromagnetic-wave shielding material is integrated whereby electromagnetic-wave shielding efficiency is imparted to a display panel itself. A transparent film having a conductive pattern is bonded to a front surface of a plasma display panel by transparent adhesives A. The conductive pattern is in a mesh form having a line width of 50 &mgr;m or less and an open area ratio of 75% or more and is formed by vapor plating or liquid phase plating. To form a conductive pattern, dots are printed on a transparent film by using material which is soluble in solvent such as water. Then, a conductive material layer is formed so as to cover over all the dots and exposed portions of the transparent film . The film is cleaned by the solvent such as water. By the cleaning process, the soluble dots are dissolved and the conductive material on the dots are also removed from the film . Accordingly, conductive material formed on the exposed portions are left uncovered by the dots so as to form a conductive pattern . In this manner, the conductive pattern plated on areas of the film other than the dots is formed.

Display panel and method of manufacturing electromagnetic-wave shielding and light transmitting plate

A light transmission tube includes a tubular clad and a core section having a higher refractive index than that of the tubular clad. A belt-like reflecting layer is formed between the tubular clad and the core section, extending in the longitudinal direction of the tubular clad, in a manner such that a light passing through the core section is reflected and scatterred by the reflecting layer and then emitted from an outer surface area of the tubular clad, which outer surface area is located opposite to one side of the tubular clad where the reflecting layer has been formed. Further, the reflecting layer may be so formed that a light is allowed to be emitted in a plurality of directions. Moreover, the belt-like reflecting layer may be formed into a spiral configuration. The clad formation material may contain an ultraviolet light shielding material or an ultraviolet light absorbing material.

A method of making an optical transmission tube comprises having a tubular clad and a core covered with the tube and having a refractive index higher than the clad. The core has light-scattering particles uniformly dispersed in or throughout the core, so that light passing through the core is reflected and scattered at individual scattering particles to permit the light to be emitted from outer surfaces of the clad.

Optical transmission tube and method for making the same

The light transmission hose included in the waterproof lighting apparatus according to the present invention is of a watertight structure, so it can easily be used as laid in or on water without any special protective means. Since the light source is installed in a location apart from water, it can be easily maintained and lamp replacement is also easy. Waterproof lighting apparatus

In an optical transmission tube comprising a tubular cladding and a core within the cladding having a higher index of refraction than the cladding, a strip-shaped reflecting layer is longitudinally extended between the cladding and the core. A branched type light transmission system including a plurality of light transmission tubes each comprising a flexible cylindrical cladding and a transparent core filled in the cladding and which has a higher index of refraction than the cladding. The core is made of an elastically deformable solid substance, and the plurality of light transmission tubes are bundled together at the light-incident ends thereof with a binding member and thus applied with an external pressure to deform each light transmission tube in order to minimize the clearance between the light transmission tubes.

A light scattering material is prepared by mixing with and dispersing in a transparent elastomer matrix particles of a transparent material. The matrix has a Tg of lower than room temperature and the transparent material has a different index of refraction form the matrix.

In an optical waveguide tube comprising a tubular cladding filled with a solid core having a higher refractive index than the cladding, a light transmissive window member is disposed in close contact with at least the end face of the core on a light incident side for protecting the core end face from thermal influence and contamination. Means disposed around the cladding and the window member for securing the window member to the cladding may be a tape wrapped around them or a heat shrinkable sleeve or a ferrule. Alternatively, a ferrule surrounding the outer periphery of the cladding at each end is fastened for securing the cladding to the core at each end for preventing the core from projecting out of the cladding. The ferrule may have a collar disposed in abutment with the core end face.
