An apparatus for the filling of a medical filter has at least one first space and one second space which are semipermeably separated by one or more membranes, with the spaces each having at least one inflow and outflow. The apparatus includes a detection unit having a first element and a second element, with a liquid discharge from at least one of the first and second spaces being detectable by the first element, and the state of the filling of the filter being determinable by the second element with reference to the detected liquid discharge. A method of filling a medical filter employs the apparatus.

Device for filling a filter, and method therefor

A method is provided for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids for an extra-corporeal blood processing device with an extra-corporeal blood circuit, comprising an arterial blood line, running from an arterial patient connection to a first chamber of a dialyzer or filter divided into said first chamber and a second chamber by a membrane and a venous blood line, running from the first chamber of the dialyzer or filter to a venous patient connection. A device is provided for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids for an extra-corporeal blood processing unit with an extra-corporeal blood circuit and an extra-corporeal blood processing device with a device for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids. The method and the device for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids are based on monitoring the fluid level in the bubble trap, arranged in the venous blood line of the extra-corporeal blood circuit. The method and the device require that fluid is added to fill the extra-corporeal blood circuit, for example, for a rinsing procedure of the extra-corporeal blood circuit by means of the substitution fluid supply line arranged upstream or downstream of the dialyzer. A pre-dilution can be commanded when, after initiating the rinsing process the fill level in the bubble trap does not drop below a certain level. When by contrast the fill level drops below a given level a post-dilution can be commanded.

Method and device for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids upstream of downstream of a dialyzer of filter

The present invention relates to a device and a method for detecting blood or blood constituents in the liquid system of a device for extracorporeal blood treatment, comprising a dialysis device or filter divided by a semipermeable membrane into a first chamber and a second chamber, wherein the first chamber is part of the extracorporeal blood circulation system and the second chamber part of the liquid system of the extracorporeal blood treatment device. The device according to the present invention for detecting blood or blood constituents in the liquid system of an extracorporeal blood treatment device is designed as a unit for differentiating between the entry of blood into the liquid system due to a defect of the dialysis device or filter, for example a rupture of the semipermeable membrane of the dialysis device or filter, or the entry of hemoglobin into the liquid system due to hemolysis, wherein a differentiation is made between a defect of the dialysis device or filter or hemolysis based on the change in intensity of at least the blue fraction of the light exiting from the liquid.

Device and method for detecting blood or blood constituents in the liquid system of a device for extracorporeal blood treatment

The present invention relates to a method for the operation of a pressure measuring device for the measurement of the pressure in a system through which fluid flows, in particular in an extracorporeal circuit of a medical unit, with the pressure measuring device having a measuring chamber which is bounded by a flexible membrane, through which fluid flows in the operation of the system or which is filled with fluid and also having a pressure sensor connected to the membrane for the purpose of pressure measurement, with the method including the following steps not requiring any intervention of the staff: a. increasing the pressure in the measuring chamber () to a pressure value at which the membrane () is at least slightly outwardly curved relative to the measuring chamber () in the state not connected to the pressure sensor () or determining such a pressure value; b: separating the membrane () of the measuring chamber () from the pressure sensor (); c. joining together the membrane () of the measuring chamber () and of the pressure sensor () such that the membrane () of the measuring chamber () contacts the pressure sensor (); and d. repeating the steps a. to c. at predetermined intervals and/or on the occurrence of an error case.

The invention relates to a detector for measuring scattered light in liquids having a housing, a transparent, flexible tube for transporting liquid through the housing, a light emitter, and a light detector. Two parallel surfaces are formed in the housing, between which the tube is arranged such that two opposing tube walls are formed in a planar parallel manner. The light emitter is arranged in such a way that the optical axis thereof is perpendicular to the parallel surfaces of the first tube wall, and the light detector is adjacent to the light emitter, the optical axes of the light emitter and light detector forming an angle smaller than 90&#xb0;. The invention also relates to a method for detecting the presence of blood and for the quantitative determination of biological marker substances, especially bilirubin, in solution, and to a device for treating blood containing the detector.
