In an inkjet recording apparatus in which a single ink supply path for hermetically sealing an ink tank and a recording head from the atmosphere is formed by connecting the ink tank to first and second hollow needles. When the ink tank is detached, the flow path is sealed in association with mounting and dismounting of the ink tank, thereby leakage of ink to the outside of the apparatus is prevented.

Inkjet recording apparatus

An ink jet recording apparatus comprises a recording head including a discharge port for discharging ink, a first liquid chamber at the upstream side in the direction of ink flow toward the discharge port, and a second liquid chamber at the downstream side, an ink tank for containing ink to be supplied to the recording head, an ink supply tube for causing the ink tank to communicate with the recording head, a shut-off valve provided in the ink supply tube and opening or closing the ink supply tube, a cap for covering the discharge port; and a suction pump for forcedly discharging the ink in the recording head from the discharge port when the cap covers the discharge port. The shut-off valve is opened when the first and second liquid chambers are reduced to respectively desired pressures by the suction pump in a state where the cap covers the discharge port and the shut-off valve is closed, whereby the ink in the ink tank is supplied through the ink supply tube to the first and second liquid chambers.

Ink jet recording apparatus

A cartridge is detachably mountable to a holder of an ink jet recording apparatus, so as to be freely reciprocatable to scan across a recording medium and record thereon by discharging ink. The cartridge is defined by a cartridge main body, and is provided with a recording head for discharging ink from plural nozzles formed in parallel on a lower face of the cartridge main body facing the recording medium. A front face of the cartridge main body is provided with an electrical connection portion having cartridge electrodes, which are electrically connectable with corresponding electrodes of the holder. A rear face opposite to the front face is provided with an ink connection portion connectable to corresponding supply ports which supply ink to the recording head from a main tank installed elsewhere on the ink jet recording apparatus. With the cartridge thus structured, the force exerted for connection to the supply port does not affect the precision with which the cartridge is mounted on the holder.

The invention prevents drawbacks resulting from the bubble generated at the downstream side of the filter, while minimizing the waste in the ink. The recording head has a sub tank for storing ink supplied from the exterior, and a liquid chamber storing the ink supplied from the sub tank and supplying ink directly to a nozzle for ink discharge. A filter is provided between the sub tank and the liquid chamber. The liquid chamber holds ink of a predetermined amount in such a manner that the ink therein is separated by gas between the filter and the liquid chamber.

The pressure adjustment chamber has at least one elastic transformation body having a changeable volume according to vapor pressure to adjust the vapor pressure in a container communicated thereto and a support for supporting the elastic transformation body to the container. In the pressure adjustment chamber, the elastic transformation body includes an approximately circular opening and two surfaces approximately flat before transformation at an outer circumference, in which the two surfaces have a shape extended through a curved portion at a front end opposite to the opening.

A liquid discharge head records by generating thermal energy to discharge ink from a discharge port onto a recording medium. The head is provided with a heat dissipating substrate positioned substantially parallel and adjacent to a discharge portion substrate, and a space, which communicates with the outside air, positioned at a surface of the heat dissipating substrate which is opposite the surface of the heat dissipating substrate facing the discharge portion substrate. The space extends in the scanning direction so as to facilitate air flow through the head during carriage movement in order to dissipate heat generated by the head during recording. A cooling fan may be provided to increase the air flow and the consequent heat dissipation.

Precision of detecting existence/non-existence of a liquid container and a liquid level in the container is improved even if the detection is performed by a single sensor, or even if the S/N ratio of the detection is low, the detected results can be discriminated from one another. For this, a concave polyhedron is provided in the center of the bottom surface of an optical prism in order to reduce the amount of light reflected on the bottom surface of the optical prism and returned to a photoreceptor. Moreover, a reflection curved surface having a quadratic surface e.g. spherical surface or paraboloid, is provided on the bottom surface of an ink tank, for reflecting light emitted by an optical unit consisting of a light emission device and a photoreceptor. By virtue of this, even in a case where an arrangement angle or position of the optical unit is deviated to some extent, sufficient amount of light for the photoreceptor can be received, making it possible to accurately detect existence/non-existence of ink and/or existence/non-existence of an ink tank.

A detection unit for optically detecting the position of a carriage via a linear scale is fixed to the rear surface of the carriage that moves along the linear scale, and an absorber which serves as a cleaning member and can absorb liquid is fixed to the detection unit.
