A blow molding is composed of a blow molded body with a hollow interior, an ornamental strip integrally bonded therewith on the outer surface thereof, and an end cap attached to both ends of the ornamental strip, which is free from warpage or forming a gap between the ornamental strip and the blow molded body owing to the change of temperature in use. The end cap is so attached to slide longitudinally to the ornamental strip, keeping a space between its end portion and an edge surface of the ornamental strip for accommodating the molding expansion. A fixture of the ornamental strip and the end cap are embedded in the blow molded body.

Blow molding and its molding process

A process for making a blow molded product which includes the steps of positioning a sheet having a surface pattern which is incompatible with a parison in a mold for blow molding; extruding a softened parison of a synthetic resin from a die head; holding the parison in the mold and blowing gas into the parison to be expanded to form a blow molded product with a surface feature of the sheet reproduced on the blow molded product; and separating the sheet and the blow molded product from each other. An apparatus used for the process is provided with a mold defining a cavity for blow molding, a die head for extruding a parison of a synthetic resin into said mold, a sheet positioned between the mold and the parison which is formed an effective surface thereon and incompatible with the material of the parison, a gas blowing device for blowing gas into the parison to form a blow molded product, a sheet supply device for supplying a sheet in the cavity of the mold, and a sheet takeup device for taking up the sheet from the mold after blow molding.

Blow molding process with sheet interposed between mold and product

A molding is disclosed and is adapted to be fit into a gap defined about a periphery of an automobile windshield between the windshield and a window frame of the automobile. The molding includes a main body portion including an elongated upper molding section adapted to extend along an outer periphery of the windshield, and a pair of elongated side molding sections adapted to extend along opposing side peripheries of the windshield. Each of the upper and side molding sections includes an inner portion adapted to extend into the gap between the windshield periphery and the window frame, and an outer portion adapted to overlie an outer surface of the windshield. The outer portion has a rain water guide groove formed therein longitudinally along a side of each of the side molding sections. The guide groove is gradually reduced in thickness along the elongated main body portion from predetermined locations on the side molding sections to predetermined locations on the upper molding sections, such that the guide groove is gradually reduced in width and is absent along substantially an entire length of the upper molding section. In addition, the molding includes a decoration member bonded to an outer surface of the main body portion. The elongated main body portion is a continuous unitarily molded element.

Molding for windshield of automobile and its molding apparatus

A molding for a windshield has an upper molding portion, corner molding portions integral with opposite ends of the upper molding portion and side molding portions integral with the corner molding portion. Only the side molding portions have a groove lip extending therefrom for defining a rain water guide groove. The groove lip of each side molding portion has a projection length which progressively increases from the corner portion to the side portions. Further, each of the molding portions has an upper decoration portion, a lower clamp lip and a metal fitting connecting the upper decoration portion to the lower clamp lip.
