Method and device for detection of nitroamines

The present invention provides a system for the determination of an analyte in a liquid medium. The system comprises a self-powered biosensor and a detector for measuring an electrical signal generated by said biosensor while the analyte is being oxidized or reduced, the biosensor comprising a pair of electrodes, one of the electrodes being an anode and the other a cathode, both of which carry redox enzymes on their surface. An enzyme carried on one of the electrodes can catalyze an oxidation or reduction reaction in which the analyte is oxidized or reduced, respectively, and the other of said pair of electrodes carries on its surface enzymes that can catalyze a reaction in which the oxidizer or the reducer are reduced or oxidized, respectively, in the presence of the analyte.

Self-powered biosensor

A protein comprising an antigen-binding portion formed by two cooperating peptide sequences of FIGS.A andB of the application. The protein may alternatively comprise an altered antigen-binding portion where at least one of the peptide sequences is an altered sequence, an altered sequence being a sequence of FIG.A orB in which one or more of an amino acid residue has been added, deleted or replaced by another amino acid residue. Detection of small molecules by use of a piezoelectric sensor

The present invention concerns an electrode carrying immobilized redox enzymes such that electric charge can flow between an electron mediator group to the enzyme cofactor by the use of boronic acid or a boronic acid derivative that acts as a linker moiety between the cofactor and the electron mediator group. The invention also concerns devices and systems that make use of the electrode of the invention, such as bio-sensors and fuel cells, the electrode being one of the components thereof.

Biosensor carrying redox enzymes

Binding between two members of a recognition pair, e.g. antigen-antibody is determined by utilizing a probe which includes a piezoelectric crystal with electrodes on two opposite faces of the crystal. The crystal carries one or more metal plates which may be the same or different than the electrodes, the metal plates having immobilized thereon a first member of a recognition pair. Binding of a second member of the recognition pair to the first member, or dissociation between the two members and release of the second member from the probe, causes a change of immobilized mass which results in a change to the probe's resonance frequency. The immobilized members may be immobilized on the surface of the metal plates by means of a linking group, having the following general formula (I): Z&mdash;R &mdash;Q, wherein Z represents a sulphur-containing moiety which is capable of chemical association with, attachment to or chemisorption onto the metal, R represents a connecting group, Q is a functional group which is capable of forming a covalent bond with a moiety of said first member of the recognition pair.

Determination of an analyte in a liquid medium

A photocatalyst is provided consisting of TiO doped with at least one lanthanide metal oxide. The photocatalyst may be prepared by forming a titanium-containing gel and then drying the gel and subjecting it to calcinations. The photocatalyst may be used in photodegradation of organic material.

Photocatalysts for the degradation of organic pollutants

Electrodes carrying FAD-dependent enzymes on their surface are enclosed. The FAD is modified to include a functional group or moiety which affects the properties of the enzyme. The functional group or moiety can be a binding moiety through which the FAD-enzyme complex is immobilized onto the electrode; it can be an electron mediator group for transferring electrons between the electrode and the FAD; or it can be a photoisomerizable group which can undergo photoisomerization which yields a change in the rate of the electrically induced catalytic activity of the enzyme. The electrodes can be used in electrochemical systems for deforming analytes in liquid medium or for recordal of optical signals.

Electrochemical and photochemical electrodes and their use

Electrochemical determination of the presence, and optionally concentration of an analyte utilizes an electrode having immobilized thereon one member of a recognition pair, the recognition pair consisting of said analyte. In the presence of the analyte medium pair complexes, which are complexes between the analyte and the immobilized member are formed. The electrode forms part of an electrochemical system which includes also redox molecules comprising at least one first redox molecule and at least one second redox molecule, the former transferring electrons between the electrode and the latter. Upon formation of a pair complex the electron transfer is inhibited and the change in the electrical response then indicates the presence of said analyte in the medium.

An elcctrobiochemical system for the determination of the presence and optionally concentration of an analyte in a liquid medium, the system comprising an electrode having immobilized thereon a member of a recognition pair, the other member of said pair being said analyte, the presence of said analyte in the medium resulting in formation of a pair complex, being a complex between said immobilized member and said analyte; the system further comprising redox molecules capable of changing their redox state by accepting electrons from or donating electrons to the electrode; the formation of the pair complex on the electrode bringing a change in the electrical response of the system, whereby the presence and optionally the concentration of said analyte in the medium can be determined.

Electrobiochemical method and system for the determination of an analyte

An analytical method for determining the presence or concentration of an analyte in a liquid medium is provided in which electrons are transferred from an electrode material of an electrode to the redox center of an enzyme, by the mediation of an electron mediator, whereby in the presence of an analyte the enzyme calalyzed a redox reaction in which the analyte is converted into a product. By measuring either the concentration or the product or the charge which flows in this process, the presence and/or concentration of the analyte in the medium is determined. Either or both of the enzyme and the electron mediator are immobilized on the electrode.
