The invention relates to a polymer composition comprising high impact polystyrene (HIPS) and a combination of flame retardants which are brominated epoxy oligomers and polymers. A process for preparing the HIPS composition through a masterbatch route and a masterbatch composition which contains the flame retardants are also disclosed.

High impact polystyrene flame retarded compositions

The invention relates to a polyethylene composition comprising a mixture of flame retardants which are bromine-containing polymers. The polyethylene composition is useful in the manufacture of pallets. A process for making the polyethylene composition through a masterbatch route is also disclosed.

Flame retarded compositions

A fire-retardant formulation for styrene-containing polymers comprising tris(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)-s-triazine (FR-245), antimony trioxide and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), wherein the bromine concentration in said fire-retardant formulation is from about 9.0 to about 10.5 wt. %, said antimony trioxide concentration being lower than about 3.2 wt. %.

Fire retardant formulations

A polypropylene composition comprising polypropylene impact copolymer or impact modified polypropylene and an effective flame retarding amount of a mixture of (i) tris(tribromoneopentyl) phosphate and (ii) a carbon-carbon initiator, wherein the composition meets a UL 94 rating of V-1 or V-0, said composition being substantially free from antimony trioxide. A method for improving the flame retarding rating of a polypropylene composition is also disclosed.

Polypropylene based formulations

A flame-retarded styrene-containing polymer composition, which comprises a styrene-containing polymer, tris(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)-s-triazine, 0.5-1.7 wt % antimony trioxide, and an anti-dripping agent. The bromine content of the composition is generally in the range between 8 and 18 wt %. Additional brominated flame retarding agents may also be included in the composition.

Flame-retarded compositions of styrene-containing polymers

Composition comprising fluoropolymers, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), poly(hexafluoroethylene), poly(tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoroethylene), and poly(tetrafluoroethylene-ethylene-propylene), which are dispersed in flame retardants, such as organic, bromine compounds and/or organic phosphorus compounds, and that consist of particles that comprise one or more fluoropolymers and flame retardants. The fluoropolymers may be enveloped by the flame retardant.

Flame retardant additive of fluoropolymers in flame retardants

Flame-retarded transparent plastic compositions comprising polyhalgenated trimethylphenyl indan. The polyhalogenated trimethylphenyl indan is a mixture of polyhalogenated trimethylphenyl indanes having each 3 to 9 halogen atoms. The halogen may be bromine or a mixture of bromine and chlorine. The transparent plastic is selected from polycarbonate, polymethylmethacrylate, and polystyrene. The polyhalogenated trimethylphenyl indan is present in an amount of up to about 40% by weight. The transparent plastic flame-retarded material is prepared by mixing the plastic matrix with a flame-retardant effective amount of a polyhalogenated trimethylphenyl indan.

Flame-retarted transparent plastics

A brominated epoxy oligomer of the formula ##STR1## having a molecular weight of least 3,000, useful as a flame retardant additive for polypropylene and ethylene propylene copolymers is described.

Fire-retarded propylene polymers having high thermomechanical stability

Novel fire retardant compounds are disclosed, which are poly-halogenated TMPI and MPI compounds containing three or more halogen atoms per molecule. A process for the preparation of these compounds and polymeric compositions containing them are also described.
