A method and system, the method including transmitting a unique identifier of at least one radio frequency (RF) transmitter to a device in a vicinity of the RF transmitter; acquiring images of objects by a vision system, the vision system comprising at least one image capturing device and an image processing unit to determine objects in the images acquired by the image capturing device; determining, by a controller, a location of the device based on, at least in part, the unique identifier of one of the at least one RF transmitters; and determining, by the controller, a precise location of the device based on a correlation between the location of the device determined based on the unique identifier and the objects captured in the images acquired by the image capturing device.

Indoor positioning system using beacons and video analytics

A connection module is configured for installation between a first luminaire and a second luminaire. The module includes a mounting unit. The mounting unit has a left side configured for docking to a right end of the first luminaire and a right side configured for docking to a left end of the second luminaire. Methods, apparatus, system and media for use in association with lighting systems

A lighting system and method for controlling illumination of the same upon detection of a user in at least one of a first detection area and a second detection area. The lighting system can include a lighting fixture having one or more lighting sources and at least two sensors associated with separate detection areas. Each sensor can send a signal to a controller associated with the lighting fixture, and the controller can be configured to vary the illumination of one or more of the lighting sources depending on the each sensor's detection area. The present subject matter facilitates energy savings since areas away from an occupied area are not illuminated. Communication between neighboring lighting fixtures is not required since each lighting fixture can detect the presence of a user in an area proximate an adjacent lighting fixture in order to trigger illumination of the lighting fixture.

Solution for dynamic lighting control

A lighting system includes a plurality of fixtures, wherein each fixture includes a plurality of fluorescent lamps. A dimming ballast is operatively coupled to each fixture, each dimming ballast receives power from an outside source that is delivered to the fluorescent lamps within each corresponding fixture. A control module communicates with each dimming ballast, the control module receives a lighting level from an outside source, determines the most power efficient lighting solution and outputs a control signal to each dimming ballast related to the light output level of each lamp within each fixture.

Power line communication (PLC) systems are presented for connecting dimming switches with electronic ballasts for driving compact fluorescent lamps and other applications using a power distribution network, including a transmitter and a receiver connected in a series circuit for transmission of multi-bit data, where the receiver has a load control circuit for selectively adjusting the receiver loading and to sense current interruptions to provide a data output.

Apparatus for controlling integrated lighting ballasts in a series scheme

Disclosed herein are mercury free ceramic metal halide high intensity discharge lamps of specified arc tube geometry and composition of ionizable fill. Embodiments herein generally employ a discharge vessel formed of a ceramic material having an aspect ratio satisfied by 1&#x3c;ITL/ID&#x3c;4.5 where ITL is the inner total length of the discharge vessel and ID is the inner diameter of the discharge vessel. The ionizable fill typically comprises xenon at a cold fill pressure of from about 3 to about 15 bar, and a halide component comprising sodium halide, thallium halide and/or indium halide, and at least one rare earth halide. Disclosed advantages may include betterment in both lumen run-up and color shift upon dimming, as compared to mercury-containing CMH HID lamps.

A discharge lamp such as a shrouded metal halide lamp is designed to reduce the potential for arcing under hot restart or restrike voltages. A stepped conformation of the pinch seal region limits arcing within the shroud while different dimensions of stems in the base increase the distance between outer lead wires in the base to prevent arcing externally of the shroud.

Different arrangements for improving the coupling-in efficiency between an LED assembly and a light guide are disclosed. In a first arrangement, a substantially planar end of a light guide is seated on a perimeter wall of a support that encloses a LED assembly, and a reflecting surface enhances coupling efficiency of a light guide. Alternative arrangements use a separate coupler disposed between the LED assembly and the light guide, which coupler has a paraboloid or aspheroid conformation to develop substantially collimated light that is directed into the light guide. The cavity around the LED assembly and within the coupler, may be air or a material having an index of refraction that closely matches the index of refraction of the light guide material.

A circuit or combined ballast for driving a fluorescent lamp and at least one light emitting diode (LED) includes an integrated driver circuit having an alternating current (AC) circuit that includes at least one ballast coil for driving the fluorescent lamp and a direct current circuit for driving the LED having a secondary winding inductively coupled with the fluorescent lamp ballast coil for driving the LED. A method of driving a lamp assembly includes at least one fluorescent lamp and at least one light emitting diode (LED) and a combined driver circuit for supplying both the fluorescent lamp and the LED. The combined driver circuit supplies high voltage AC supply to a first portion of the driver circuit to the fluorescent lamp, supplies low voltage DC supply in a second portion of the driver circuit to the LED, and provides a secondary winding in the second portion of the driver circuit that is inductively coupled with a ballast coil in the first portion of the driver circuit that drives the fluorescent lamp.

Combined ballast for fluorescent lamp and light emitting diode and method of driving same

A light-source assembly includes a low-pressure fluorescent discharge tube arrangement having a cold spot temperature and radiating white light and at least one light-emitting diode radiating red light. An operating circuit supplies current to the discharge tube arrangement and the light-emitting diode. An outer envelope surrounds at least the discharge tube arrangement and provides a substantially homogenous light resulting from a mixture of the light radiated by the discharge tube arrangement and the light radiated by the light-emitting diode. A base mechanically and electrically connects at least the discharge tube arrangement in the outer envelope to a lamp-holder.

Thermal management of LEDS integrated to compact fluorescent lamps

A dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) lamp is disclosed. The DBD lamp comprises a discharge vessel, which encloses a discharge volume filled with discharge gas. The discharge vessel further comprises a phosphor layer within the discharge volume. The discharge vessel comprises an outer tubular portion having an internal surface, and an inner tubular portion having an outward surface. The outer tubular portion surrounds the inner tubular portion. In this manner, a substantially annular discharge volume is enclosed between the outer tubular portion and the inner tubular portion. The inner tubular portion comprises a multitude of protrusions around its circumference. The protrusions extend into the substantially annular discharge volume. A first set of interconnected electrodes and a second set of interconnected electrodes are also provided. The electrodes are isolated from the discharge volume by at least one dielectric layer, and at least one of the dielectric layers is constituted by the wall of the inner tubular portion.
