A rack mount network appliance may include a chassis that includes a front compartment proximal a front side of the chassis and a rear compartment proximal a rear side of the chassis. The chassis may be configured to be mounted in an appliance rack. A front vent on the front side of the chassis may be configured to allow air to flow between an external environment and the front compartment. A front loading module mountable in the front compartment may include a heat generating device. A front loading airflow module may be configured to draw in air within the front compartment into the front loading airflow module in a first direction and force air out of the front loading airflow module into the rear compartment in a second direction such that air is drawn in the front vent, over the heat generating device of the front loading module, and forced rearward over rear heat generating devices and out a rear vent of the chassis. The first direction may be substantially orthogonal to the second direction.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus of heat dispersion from the bottom side of an integrated circuit package mounted on a printed circuit board (&ldquo;PCB&rdquo;). In operation, a heat slug is thermally coupled to the underside of an integrated circuit (&ldquo;IC&rdquo;) package. In one embodiment, the heat slug comprises a disc made of copper or other thermally conductive material in between two layers of elastomeric, conductive material such as silicone imbedded with aluminum particles. The thermal pad extends through each layer of the PCB, including the ground layer. In this way, the ground layer of the PCB is utilized for heat dispersion.

Method and apparatus for heat dispersion from the bottom side of integrated circuit packages on printed circuit boards

A system and method for converting a desk-top computer into a rack-mounted computer includes mounting the chassis of a desk-top computer in a carrier tray. The carrier is then mounted in means for sliding the carrier in and out of an electrical equipment rack.

A system for customizing computers to mate with an array of wire or cable terminus connectors includes a detachable wire or cable terminus connector mounting assembly. The wire terminus connector mounting assembly includes a cover plate and an interfacing circuit board. The cover plate may be customized to present an array of selected computer-based connectors which are electrically connected to the computer by the interfacing circuit board which includes a standard connection array at a predetermined location.
