A suspended microstructure process assembly includes a first microstructure assembly, with a temporary substrate having a first surface and a first microstructure fabricated on the first surface; a second microstructure assembly, including a final substrate having a second surface and a second microstructure fabricated on the second surface; connecting elements for joining the first microstructure assembly to the second microstructure assembly with a predetermined separation and alignment; and a removable bond temporarily securing the first microstructure assembly to the second microstructure assembly until the temporary substrate is removed. The connecting elements may be electrically conductive contacts or electrically nonconductive spacers. Electrically conductive contacts may be supplied to the first microstructure from a back side of the first microstructure assembly. The first microstructure fabricated on the first surface may incorporate a removable layer to enable multiple level suspended structures.

Method of making suspended microstructures

A fully reticulated pyroelectric imager is made by affixing a first major surface of a layer of poled pyroelectric material to a substrate and polishing a second major surface of the pyroelectric layer to reduce the layer to a predetermined thickness. An electrically conductive electrode layer is deposited on the second major surface of the pyroelectric layer and portions of the electrode layer are selectively removed to define a two dimensional array of front side electrodes on the pyroelectric layer. Portions of the pyroelectric layer are then selectively removed to define a two dimensional array of pyroelectric detector elements on the substrate, with one of the front side electrodes on the second major surface of each detector element. A polymer layer is deposited over the arrays of front side electrodes and detector elements and a portion of the polymer layer is selectively removing over each front side electrode to create a via to each front side electrode. A two dimensional array of electrically conductive pads is deposited on the polymer layer such that each pad contacts a front side electrode through the corresponding via. The detector element array is mated to a multiplexer chip by connecting each pad on the detector array to circuitry on the multiplexer chip and the substrate is removed. An electrically conductive radiation absorbing layer is then deposited on the first major surface of each pyroelectric detector element.

Method of making a reticulated temperature sensitive imaging device

A detector for magnetic bubble domain devices including an input path for receiving and propagating magnetic bubble domains, an expander device which intersects the input path and functions to expand the bubble domain in a first direction, and a replication device which intersects the expander and functions to cut the expanded bubble into a plurality of magnetic bubble domains and to expand the bubble domain in a second direction. A plurality of detector strips are disposed along the second direction functioning to detect the plurality of magnetic bubble domains.

Multi-replicator stretcher detector

A magnetic bubble domain system including a planar layer of magnetic material in which magnetic bubble domains can be propagated; and first and second bubble domain guide structure coupled to the layer and defining respective first and second bubble propagation paths for guiding the movement of bubbles in the layer in response to a cyclical change in the orientation of a reorienting magnetic field within the plane of the layer. A transfer bubble domain guide structure coupled to the layer is also provided for transferring bubble domains between the first and the second propagation paths responsive to a reverse in direction of the reorienting magnetic field. The transfer path is substantially the same as one of the directions of the crystallographic axes of the planar layer.

Conductorless bubble domain switch

A bi-level magnetic bubble domain propagation structure in which the domain guide structure is formed by a spatially periodic pattern of permalloy implemented on two discrete levels separated by a substantially vertical gap. The structure forms a pattern of contiguous disk on one level and the complementary image of such disks on the second level.

Complementary bi-level magnetic bubble propagation circuit

A replicator for a magnetic bubble domain device including a hairpin loop conductor element traversing first and second spaced apart bubble domain guide structures. The replicator functions to replicate a bubble domain travelling along the first bubble propagation path onto the second bubble propagation path in response to an activating signal on the conductor. The replicate guide structure includes two attractive cusp positions and one repulsive cusp position, so that the repulsive charged wall formed at the repulsive cusp position functions to sever a stretched bubble domain formed by the activating signal.

Replicator for ion-implanted bubble domain devices

A bi-level magnetic bubble domain propagation structure in which the domain guide structure is formed by a spatially periodic pattern of permalloy implemented on two discrete levels separated by a substantially vertical gap. The structure forms a complementary pattern of contiguous disks, and the complementary image of such disks.

Method of fabricating a bi-level magnetic bubble propagation circuit

Replication in a magnetic bubble device is realized by a method of operation that is based on the principle of stretching, then cutting the bubble by the control current pulses. In this mode of operation, the bubble is stretched, under the influence of a large amplitude current pulse in the control conductor, between the switch propagate element in the primary track and another propagate element in the secondary track. The bubble strip is let to propagate for a fraction of a field cycle after which a second large amplitude narrow pulse is applied to the control conductor to sever the bubble strip into two parts. One part propagates as would the original bubble in the primary track and the second part propagates in the secondary track.

Switching method for effecting replication in magnetic bubble devices

A magnetic bubble domain device including a segmented stretcher detector. The detector is formed from a propagation path for magnetic bubble domains, and a first replicator disposed adjacent the propagation path. The first replicator functions to replicate one of the propagating bubble domains into a pair of magnetic bubble domains, and to transfer one of the bubble domains into a first secondary track extending in a direction different from the direction of the propagation path. A second replicator is disposed along the propagation path and functions to replicate the one bubble domain into a pair of magnetic bubble domains and to transfer one of the bubble domains into a second secondary track extending generally in the first direction. Finally, the detector is disposed along the first direction and functions to detect the plurality of magnetic bubble domains.

Segmented stretcher detector for magnetic bubble domain devices

An active replicate/transfer magnetic bubble domain switch which is especially compatible with gap tolerant structures is provided. The switch includes a broadfaced corner element of relatively massive structure which retains the bubble domain for more than one field cycle. The switch characteristics are superior to those of existing switches both at the 8 .mu.m and 16 .mu.m periods. The switch offers the advantages of good bias and phase margins, ease of fabrication and reduced drive field requirements. In the 8 .mu.m, version the device requires a substantially lower drive field than the pickax design by virtue of reduced bubble-bubble interaction in the minor loops.

Replicate/transfer bubble domain switch

There is shown and described a magnetic bubble domain device organization using certain propagation elements which have expanded size relative to the remainder of the propagation elements in order to improve device or system operation.

Magnetic bubble domain organization using double period input/output

A magnetic bubble domain circuit component for selectively, substantially concurrently, exchanging bubble domains from adjacent propagation paths. The exchange switch defined herein is an active (i.e. a control current is required) switch. The improved design of the exchange switch permits bubble domain exchanges in a minimum time and distance in a magnetic bubble domain circuit.

Compact exchange switch for bubble domain devices

There is disclosed an apparatus and method for constructing integrated buffered devices for use with magnetic bubble domain memories. A small storage loop acts as the buffer memory and is interfaced with the main storage loops through a new circuit component. The new circuit component performs the function of transferring a bubble from one track, holds the bubble for a prescribed number of cycles, and then transfers the bubble to another track. Thus, any arbitrarily located bubble within the storage loop can be transferred to any arbitrary location in the buffer loop.

Magnetic bubble domain memory device with integrated buffer

There is provided a switch which is useful in magnetic bubble domain devices. This switch can be used to replicate, transfer or annihilate bubble domains in a magnetic bubble domain memory system. The switch comprises a half-disk (or pick-axe) shaped element which is disposed adjacent to two juxtaposed magnetic bubble domain propagation paths. A re-entrant current path conductor is integrally connected to the half-disk element and associated with at least one of the propagation paths whereby magnetic bubble domains can be stretched, cut, annihilated or the like in response to a control current signal. Optional bar elements are associated with the half disk elements of the switch to improve the operating characteristics thereof.

One-level switch for magnetic bubble domain devices

An on-chip bubble domain circuit organization utilizing a multi-chip concept is provided. One or more storage registers are separately connected to each of a plurality of propagation channels whereby data in the form of magnetic bubble domains (bubbles) may be transferred into and out of the storage registers. Each of the propagation channels includes a generator for producing the initial bubbles which are supplied to a multiple output replicator via an input propagation path. The initial bubbles are replicated into any desired number of new bubbles by a multiple output replicator. The input propagation paths for the several channels have different lengths of propagation times between the generator and the replicator. Input decoders are utilized to determine to which storage register the bubbles from the replicators will be directed along the propagation channel. Those bubbles not selected are, typically, annihilated. Output decoders utilizing essentially the same decoding scheme as the input decoders, selectively received bubbles from the storage registers. A transfer and replicate switch is utilized between the storage register and output decoders to selectively transfer bubbles to the output decoders. The output decoders may collapse all of the bubbles from certain storage registers so that only the information from the selected storage register reaches the detector. Moreover, the output decoders have different path lengths to the detectors, as a function of the input propagation path, so that each channel has the same propagation time from generator to detector. The detectors in turn produce the chip output signals. External control electronics are utilized to control the selective operation of the various devices utilized in the propagation channels.
