Based on the sparseness for the local file, the local file is uploaded to a remote service, while preserving sparseness by not uploading data that the remote service can imply based on the sparseness.

Integrated format conversion during disk upload

Updating a remote storage data set. A method includes, from a local service providing a hint of a remote storage data set that may exist at a remote service. An indication is received from the remote service that the remote storage data set exists at the remote service. The method includes requesting that the remote storage data set be copied at the remote service to a copy of the remote storage data set. A change to be applied to the copy of the remote storage data set is sent to the remote service.

Iterative disk upload based on differencing disk format

In various embodiments, methods and systems for maintaining compatibility between applications, based on feature-set constraints are provided. A distributed computing system provides Platform as a service (PaaS) including a software framework in a service model of cloud computing. A known compatibility baseline is established for features of a first application and a second application. The known compatibility baseline inherently includes a baseline set of unenumerated features of the applications. It is determined that the first application is compatible with second application based on comparing an explicit enumeration of added features or removed features in a feature set of the applications. The added features or removed features are tracked after the baseline set of unenumerated features is defined. The determination whether the first application and the second application are compatible is communicated for processing the first application and/or the second application.

Application compatibility checking in a distributed computing environment

Personalized media charts are described. In embodiments, a request can be received for a personalized media chart that lists media assets as recommendations in a relevant order for a user. The media assets are initially ordered in the personalized media chart according to a chart rank for each media asset. A relevance factor is then determined for each of the media assets, where the relevance factor for a media asset indicates a relevance of the media asset to the user. A chart rank adjustment is calculated for each of the media assets based on the relevance factors for each of the media assets, and the media assets are then reordered in the personalized media chart according to the chart rank adjustments for each of the media assets.
