A multimedia device having a housing that includes a display screen, two tweeters, two mid-range drivers, and two woofers, which are integrated into the housing. Both woofers are disposed at a first distance from a center vertical axis of the housing in opposite horizontal directions, both tweeters are disposed at a second distance from the center vertical axis in the opposite horizontal directions, and both mid-range drivers are disposed at a third distance from the center vertical axis in opposite horizontal directions. In addition, both the first and second distances are greater than the third distance.

Speaker driver arrangement for implementing cross-talk cancellation

Digital audio signal processing techniques used to provide an acoustic transparency function in a pair of headphones. A number of transparency filters can be computed at once, using optimization techniques or using a closed form solution, which are based on multiple re-seatings of the headphones and that are as a result robust for a population of wearers. In another embodiment, a transparency hearing filter of a headphone is computed by an adaptive system that takes into consideration the changing acoustic to electrical path between an earpiece speaker and an interior microphone of that headphone while worn by a user. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

A method performed by an audio system within a room that includes a first loudspeaker that has a first beamforming array and a second loudspeaker that has a second beamforming array. The method obtains a sound program as several input audio channels. The method performs a beamforming algorithm based on the input audio channels to cause each of the arrays to produce a front beam pattern and a side beam pattern when the loudspeakers are close to an object within the room, where the front beam patterns are directed away from the object and the side beam patterns are directed towards the object and the beam patterns contain different portions of the sound program. The method performs a cross-talk cancellation (XTC) algorithm based on a subset of the input audio channels to produce several XTC output signals for driving the arrays when the loudspeakers are far away from the object.

Surround sound rendering based on room acoustics

Placement of one or two placed virtual loudspeakers within a loudspeaker setup that includes a real loudspeakers is determined and vector base amplitude panning (VBAP) gains including the gains of the real loudspeakers and placed one or two virtual loudspeakers are also then determined. Gains of one or two placed virtual loudspeakers are redistributed to the real loudspeakers to ensure preservation of total energy. Real loudspeakers in the loudspeaker setup have redistributed gains of one or two placed virtual loudspeakers. Loudspeaker outputs are generated and transmitted to the real loudspeakers to be played back. When received audio content is ambisonics content, a predetermined grid is generated and HOA content is projected to the grid. Other aspects are also described.

System and method for performing panning for an arbitrary loudspeaker setup

Volume extension includes limiting the magnitude of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) frequency bins which allows increases to the perceived level of audio content without causing distortion. A soft limit and smoothing is applied to each FFT bin is to prevent or reduce distortion while maximizing output volume. Frequency resolution is significantly improved compared to volume extension methods utilizing filterbanks and hard limiting, and distortion is reduced because no hard limiting occurs.

Methods, devices and computer program products facilitate the generation of high quality audio content. The audio content includes upper harmonics that are associated with a bass band of frequencies in order to enhance the perception of bass audio components that cannot be produced by the audio speakers. The upper harmonics are generated and processed in such a way that reduces the computational and memory requirements of the audio processing operations. The processed upper harmonics are combined with the original audio that are properly delayed to enhance the quality of the audio content. Audio content enhancement using bandwidth extension techniques

A Dynamic Noise Compensation (DNC) telephone speech enhancement algorithm addresses the issue of environment noise on the listener end of a telephone call. A single microphone proximal to the listener provides a sample of near end ambient noise level and of near end speech. A Voice Activity Detector (VAD) detects the presence of near end (listener) speech. The DNC algorithm adjusts the far end incoming speech level based on the near end ambient noise and the VAD ensures that the near end listener speech does not effect the incoming speech level adjustment.
