Disclosed are various embodiments for managing radio-based private networks. In one embodiment, a request is received from an organization for a provider to provision a radio-based private network to cover a site of the organization. Equipment is preconfigured to implement the radio-based private network before shipping the equipment to the organization. A core network is provisioned for the organization.

Managing radio-based private networks

A dynamic routing information exchange protocol session is established between a protocol processing intermediary and an application pipeline function executor running at a virtualized computing service. During the session, the intermediary receives a message indicating reachability information of a pipeline function implemented by the executor, and causes an entry indicating the executor as a destination to be stored in a route table of the service. After the entry is stored, a request for the application function is directed to the executor using the entry.

Routing protocol processing intermediaries for cloud computing environments

Techniques for utilizing dual-stack network addressing for compute instances hosted in an edge location of a cloud provider network along with communications service provider (CSP) network addresses are described. A first network address is assigned to the compute instance from a pool of network addresses of the cloud provider network, and a second network address is associated with the compute instance that is provided by the CSP network. A gateway of the edge location is updated to direct packets addressed to the second network address to the compute instance via use of the first network address.

Dual-stack network addressing in cloud provider network edge locations

A first extension resource group (ERG) of a provider network, comprising a radio-based application pipeline processing server with a network accelerator card, is configured at an external premise. A first set of network functions of a radio-based application is executed at the card. In one embodiment, a request is received via an interface to create a radio-based private network for a customer. The request indicates a quantity of wireless devices that will connect to the radio-based private network. A quantity of radio units to serve the radio-based private network is determined based at least in part on the quantity of wireless devices. The radio units are preconfigured to implement a radio access network for the radio-based private network. A shipment is initiated to the customer of the radio units that have been preconfigured. Resources in a cloud provider network are provisioned to function as a core network for the radio-based private network.

Interfaces for creating radio-based private networks

Disclosed are various embodiments for scheduling use of heterogeneous frequency schemes for radio-based networks. In one embodiment, a first frequency scheme is selected instead of a second frequency scheme based at least in part on the first frequency scheme being capable of meeting a quality-of-service requirement associated with a wireless device or an application executed in the wireless device. A radio-based network is configured to provide service to the wireless device in a geographic area using the first frequency scheme instead of the second frequency scheme.

Scheduling use of heterogeneous frequency schemes for radio-based networks

A portion of a radio-based application (RBA) is executed at a first runtime environment (RTE) launched at a server. The first RTE includes a software program for processing messages between a pair of layers of the RBA. In response to determining that the portion of the RBA is to be executed at a second RTE, at least a subset of state information pertaining to the inter-layer messages is transferred to the second RTE without pausing the RBA. After the state information is transferred, the portion of the RBA is run at the second RTE.

In one embodiment, first data is transmitted to or from a first application in a particular computing device using a first network slice in a communications network. A request is sent from the particular computing device to configure a second network slice in the communications network based at least in part on a requirement of a second application. In one embodiment, a subnet of a virtual private cloud network of a cloud provider network is created in a radio-based network. An identifier of a subscriber identity module of a client device is registered in the virtual private cloud network. The subscriber identity module is assigned to a security group of the virtual private cloud network. A request from the client device to connect to the radio-based network is received, and the request presents the identifier. The virtual private cloud network to which the client device is permitted access is determined. The client device is provided with access to a resource on the virtual private cloud network through the radio-based network.

Extending cloud-based virtual private networks to radio-based networks

Techniques for managing latency of communications between compute instances and mobile devices are described. A message including an indication of a mobility event associated with a mobile device of a communications service provider network is received. The mobility event indicates a change in a connection point of the mobile device to the communications service provider network from a from a first access point to a second access point. A communications delay of at least a portion of a network path between the mobile device and a compute instance via the second access point is determined to not satisfy a latency constraint. A second provider substrate extension of the cloud provider network that satisfies the latency constraint for communications with the mobile device via the second access point is identified, and a message is sent to the second provider substrate extension to cause the launch of another compute instance.

Disclosed are various embodiments for managing computing capacity in radio-based networks and associated core networks. In one embodiment, it is determined that a set of computing hardware implementing a radio-based network for a customer has an excess capacity. Disclosed are various embodiments for extending cloud-based virtual private networks to radio-based networks. In one embodiment, a request from a client device to connect to a radio-based network is received. A virtual private cloud network of a cloud provider network to which the client device is permitted access is determined. The client device is provided with access to the virtual private cloud network through the radio-based network.

Techniques are described for enabling users of a service provider network to create and configure 'application profiles' that include parameters related to execution of user workloads at provider substrate extensions. Once an application profile is created, users can request the deployment of user workloads to provider substrate extensions by requesting instance launches based on a defined application profile. The service provider network can then automate the launch and placement of the user's workload at one or more provider substrate extensions using edge-optimized compute instances (e.g., compute instances tailored for execution within provider substrate extension environments). In some embodiments, once such edge-optimized instances are deployed, the service provider network can manage the auto-resizing of the instances in terms of various types of computing resources devoted to the instances, manage the lifecycle of instances to ensure maximum capacity availability at provider substrate extension locations, and perform other instance management processes.

Using edge-optimized compute instances to execute user workloads at provider substrate extensions

Techniques for API-based endpoint discovery and centralized load balancing involving provider substrate extension resources are described. A discovery coordinator service located within a provider network can identify one or more endpoints from a set of potentially distributed endpoints for a client to utilize, where endpoints may be located within provider substrate extensions of the provider network. The discovery coordinator service can analyze the loads of these endpoints, via client lease information, to identify nearby, low-load resources that may be most optimal for the client to use via providing minimal latency of access.
