A hybrid vehicle propulsion system comprises an electric motor as a first propulsion source, an engine as a second propulsion source and a continuously variable transmission for receiving an input rotation from at least one of the motor and engine and for delivering a driving torque to a drive axle of the vehicle. A controller controls a transmission ratio of the transmission so that the transmission ratio in a motor drive mode is higher than the transmission ratio in an engine drive mode.

Hybrid drive control system for vehicle

A drive system for a hybrid drive vehicle, comprises a driving mechanism which includes a clutch, an engine connected the clutch, a first motor for generating power, connected to the clutch, a second motor for driving a drive wheel, connected to the clutch, and a transmission connected to the clutch. A third motor is provided for driving a hydraulic pump of a hydraulic system for the transmission. A first inverter is connected between the first motor and a battery, in which charging and discharging between the first motor and the battery being made through the first inverter. A second inverter is connected between the second motor and the battery, in which charging and discharging between the second motor and the battery being made through the second inverter. A third inverter is connected between the third motor and the battery, in which changing and discharging between the battery and the motor being made through the third inverter. A first trouble detecting device is provided for detecting trouble in the first motor and in the first inverter. Additionally, a controller is provided for controlling the engine, the inverters, the transmission and the clutch. The controller is arranged to engage the clutch and to drive the second motor so as to start operation of the engine under firing, in response to the trouble detected by the first trouble detecting device.

Drive system for hybrid drive vehicle

In a hybrid vehicle, an internal combustion engine and a first electric propulsion motor are linked to an input axle of a clutch and an input axle of a continuously variable transmission and a second electric propulsion motor are linked to an output axle of the clutch. A propulsion mechanism for transmitting a power from an output axle of the continuously variable transmission to drive axles, a third electric propulsion motor used to drive a hydraulic system of the continuously variable transmission, a battery supply, a power inverter for charging and discharging between the battery supply and the first, second, and third electric propulsion motors, and a controller for controlling operations of the power inverter, the battery supply, the first, second, and third motors, and the continuously variable transmission are provided in the hybrid vehicle.

Hybrid vehicle

A hybrid vehicle employing a parallel hybrid system, using both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor for propulsion, comprises a propulsion mechanism having at least a first electric motor, an internal combustion engine, a clutch, a second electric motor, a transmission, and drive wheels, and constructed so that a crankshaft of the engine and a motor shaft of the first electric motor are connected to an input shaft of the clutch, and that a motor shaft of the second electric motor and an input shaft of the transmission are connected to an output shaft of the clutch to transmit a driving torque from the output shaft of the transmission to the drive wheels. An engine temperature sensor is provided for detecting an engine temperature. An electronic control unit is connected to the propulsion mechanism and the engine temperature sensor, for disengaging the clutch and stopping the engine during a standstill state of the hybrid vehicle, and for propelling the hybrid vehicle by a driving torque generated by the second electric motor when the hybrid vehicle starts, and for starting up the engine by the first electric motor and engaging the clutch after engine startup, during the warm-up of the engine. A variable valve timing control system is electrically connected to the control unit for adjusting an intake-valve closure timing to a predetermined retarded closure timing when the clutch is disengaged and for adjusting the intake-valve closure timing to a predetermined advanced closure timing after the clutch is engaged, after the engine warm-up.

A throttle valve device of a V-type internal combustion engine, comprising a mechanism for operating a throttle valve independently of an acceleration operation by an acceleration pedal. The mechanism includes a DC motor which is drivingly connected to the throttle shaft to control a slip ratio of a road wheel. The DC motor is located below a throttle chamber of the throttle valve device and arranged such that a drive shaft thereof is parallel with and opposite to a throttle shaft on which the throttle valve is mounted, thereby suppressing the width of the throttle valve device in the direction of the throttle shaft.

A V-type internal combustion engine comprises a plurality of hydraulically actuable valve operation mode control actuators for two cylinder banks. A hydraulic fluid network is fluidly disposed between a main gallery of the cylinder block and the plurality of hydraulically actuable valve operation mode control actuators and includes a single control valve. The single control valve is common to all of the plurality of hydraulically actuable valve operation mode control actuators. This control valve is attached to a casing adapted to receive a drive system connecting the engine camshafts to the engine crankshaft. This casing has internal passages forming a part of the hydraulic fluid network between the control valve and the plurality of hydraulically actuable valve operation mode control actuators.

A suction system for a V-type engine includes branch pipes that cross parallel to each other for communicating with cylinders, two aggregate portions disposed inside center lines of opposed banks for aggregating the branch pipes which communicate with the cylinders without regard to the ignition order, two guide pipes connected to the aggregate portions in centers thereof, and a communicating pipe disposed over the branch pipes for communicating with the aggregate portions.

Suction system for internal combustion engine

In a V-type internal combustion engine, one bank of a cylinder block having cylinders which are offset more rearward of the engine than those of the other bank. A water pump has a pump housing installed on a front end of said one bank to define therebetween a pump chamber. The cylinder block has at a front end portion midway between the banks a coolant distributing chamber communicating with an outlet port of the pump chamber. The cylinder block has at the banks water jackets which are formed with, at respective front end portions by the side of the most forward ones of the cylinders, inlet ports opening laterally of the engine and communicating the coolant distributing chamber.

V-type internal combustion engine with improved water pump arrangement

In a V-type internal combustion engine, a timing chain is placed around and engaged with a pair of camshaft sprockets and a crankshaft sprocket. A water pump sprocket is disposed between one of the camshaft sprockets and the crankshaft sprocket and outside of an area bounded by the timing chain and engaged with the timing chain. A thermostat housing is provided integrally to a front end portion of one of the cylinder heads which is bounded by the water pump, the timing chain and a camshaft which is adjacent to an outer side of a bank and driven by one of the above mentioned camshafts. A cylinder block is provided with an engine mounting boss portion at a front end central portion thereof surrounded by the timing chain.

V-type internal combustion engine with improved water pump driving

In a V-type engine, a front casing is attached to a front end of a cylinder block and receives therewithin a sprocket and chain for transmission of engine power from a crankshaft to an oil pump. The front casing has at a peripheral portion on one side of cylinder block an oil pump mounting bracket which projects laterally outwardly of the cylinder block. The oil pump is installed on the oil pump mounting bracket in such a way as to be in a parallel relation to a crankshaft.

V-type engine lubrication system

An intake system for a V-type internal combustion engine having two banks. The intake system is comprised of two sub-collectors disposed above the respective two banks of the engine and fluidly connected with cylinders in the banks. A main collector is disposed above and between the two banks of the engine and fluidly connected through a throttle device with the two sub-collectors. The main collector is supplied with air from an air filter. The throttle device is located at the rear end side of the engine and has throttle valves which respsectively control air flows to the two sub-collectors in response to operation of an accelerator pedal.

Intake system for V-type internal combustion engine

In order to minimize the supercharging effect from the cylinder to cylinder and to maximize the efficiency of the inertia supercharging effect over essentially the whole engine speed range, first and second elongate collectors which communicate with separate banks of cylinders are interconnected at essentially their mid points by a connection tube having a selected length and cross-sectional area. An engine speed responsive valve disposed in the tube or pipe selectively induces the situation wherein quasi separate induction systems are defined for each bank of cylinders or a single enlarged system is established.
