In a constant velocity joint, a center locus of a first ball rolling on a first outer central portion is inclined such that a distance from a central axis of an outer joint member decreases toward a bottom side of the outer joint member. A center locus of a second ball rolling on a second outer central portion is formed in a linear shape and inclined such that a distance from the central axis of the outer joint member increases toward the bottom side of the outer joint member. A center locus of the second ball rolling on the second outer bottom side portion is formed in an arc shape and disposed in the outer joint member at a position radially inwardly from a tangent at a connecting position between the second outer central portion and the second outer bottom side portion.

Constant velocity joint

A joint-center-fixed constant velocity joint configured to be provided in a vehicle includes an outer joint member, an inner joint member, a first ball, a second ball, and a cage. While a center of the first ball is moving to a position of the maximum use angle on an opening side from a joint center, a first open angle faces the opening side. While a center of the second ball is moving to a position of the maximum use angle on a bottom side from the joint center, a second open angle is not reversed from a state where the second open angle faces the bottom side to a state where the second open angle faces the opening side.

A method is provided for manufacturing an outer ring of a constant velocity joint including an outer ring, an inner rotational member, a torque-transmitting rolling element, and a defining member. The outer ring includes: a first inner peripheral surface to which the defining member is attached; a second inner peripheral surface; and protrusions protruding radially inward of the first inner surface and the second inner peripheral surface so as to restrict axial movement of the inner rotational member and the rolling element. The manufacturing method includes: a plastic working step involving providing a base member; and a bottom removing step involving partially removing a bottom of the base member so as to form a through hole. The plastic working step further involves providing the second inner peripheral surface. The bottom removing step further involves providing the protrusions.

Method for manufacturing outer ring of constant velocity joint

A constant velocity joint includes balls each rollably supported by an associated one of outer ball grooves and an associated one of inner ball grooves facing each other such that the inclined direction of the associated outer ball groove relative to a central axis of an outer joint member is opposite to the inclined direction of the associated inner ball groove relative to a central axis of an inner joint member. The inner joint member includes escape portions to allow escape of the balls from the inner ball grooves to a first side of the central axis of the inner joint member. Each of the escape portions is provided at least between an end face at the first side of the central axis of the inner joint member and a first rolling guide lateral surface of the associated inner ball groove that forms an acute angle with the end face.

A compact tripod type constant velocity joint with double roller type roller units capable of preventing plastic deformation of snap rings in assembling. In each of the roller units, an outer roller has an inner diameter 'Do' of 26.4 mm or less. The inner diameter 'Do' (mm) of the outer roller, a groove depth &#x2018;Depth&#x2019; (mm) of engaging grooves formed on the outer roller and an outer diameter &#x2018;Ds&#x2019; (mm) of the snap rings satisfy the formula below. Then, in a state where the snap rings are seated in the engaging grooves, diametrical gaps of 0.1 mm or more are formed between outer peripheral ends of the snap rings and groove bottoms of the engaging groove.+2&#xd7;Depth&#x2212;&#x2267;0.1.

Tripod type constant velocity joint

In a tripod-type constant velocity joint having an inner joint member, an outer joint member, and three roller units, the radius R, outer width W, and inner width Wof the outer periphery cylindrical surface of each roller unit, and the radius Rof the center hole of each roller unit satisfy the inequalities: 0.5Rtc(1/cos 0.3&#x2296;&#x2212;1)+(RR)&#x3bc;&#x3c;Wand 1.5Rtc(1&#x2212;cos 0.3&#x2296;)+(R&#x2212;R)&#x3bc;&#x3c;W, where Rtc: the radius of a circle passing through the respective centers of tripod spherical surfaces of the inner joint member, &#x2296;: the maximum joint angle between the outer joint member and the inner joint member, and &#x3bc;: coefficient of friction between each tripod spherical surface and the wall surface of the center hole of the corresponding roller unit.

Tripod-type constant velocity joint

A power transmission shaft includes a swaged boot-engaging groove on an outer circumference of thereof. Further, the power transmission shaft includes a reduced diameter portion provided in the vicinity of the boot-engaging groove. The reduced diameter portion is formed by swaging at the same time as the boot-engaging groove is formed.

A constant velocity universal joint includes an inner race having an outer peripheral face on which inner grooves are formed, an outer race having an inner peripheral face on which outer grooves are formed, a plurality of balls each engaging with each pair of inner groove and outer groove, and an annular cage disposed between the inner race and the outer race and including window portions for retaining respective balls. A coefficient of sliding friction between the ball and a rolling face on the inner groove with which the ball is in contact, and a coefficient of sliding friction between the ball and a rolling face on the outer groove with which the ball is in contact are larger than a coefficient of sliding friction between the ball and a sliding face on the window portion with which the ball is in contact.

Constant velocity universal joint

A constant velocity universal unit includes an outer joint member whose inner peripheral face is formed with three guide grooves, an inner joint member including three tripod shafts each formed with a tripod spherical face, three roller units each including an outer peripheral face and an inner peripheral face coaxially formed with each other. The guide groove includes a pair of strip-shaped inner side faces formed with a pair of guide projections having a substantially half arc shape in cross section whose diameter is smaller than a height of the inner side face of the guide groove. The constant velocity universal joint further includes an annular recess formed on a substantially center portion in a height direction of the outer peripheral face of the roller unit and engaging with the pair of guide projections in a rolling manner and rotatable relative to a central axis of the guide projection.

A steel material for a high strength constant velocity joint intermediate shaft is provided. The steal material may preferably contain C: 0.46 to 0.52%, Si: 0.6 to 0.8%, Mn: 0.7 to 0.9%, S: 0.01 to 0.05%, Mo: 0.3 to 0.5%, B: 0.0005 to 0.005%, Al: 0.002 to 0.05%, and Ti: 0.02 to 0.09%, restricting N to 0.007% or less, Cr to 0.15% or less, and P to 0.02% or less. A structural percentage of bainite+martensite may be provided which is 40% or more. The steal material may have a hardness of 250 HV to 340 HV. A high strength constant velocity joint intermediate shaft made of that steel material may be provided which has a spline-vanishing part with a surface hardness of about 610 HV to 750 HV, and a ratio t/r of an effective hardened layer depth t and radius r of 0.35 to 0.55, having a flat part with a surface hardness of about 630 HV to 770 HV and a ratio t/r of 0.55 to 1.0, and having a core hardness of about 250 HV to 340 HV.

Steel material for high strength constant velocity joint intermediate shaft and high strength constant velocity joint intermediate shaft

A boot fitting structure is fitted onto an axial component to protect it from a dirty environment including outside dust. The boot has a pair of annular grooves and an annular lip between the pair of annular grooves on an inner surface of the boot. The annular lip does not project from an inner surface toward a centerline of the boot. An annular protuberance is provided between the boot and a clamp, through which clamping force from the clamp is concentrated on the annular lip, so that the annular lip is elastically deformed and pushed toward outside of the axial component. Therefore, the axial component can be inserted into the boot without interference between the annular lip and the axial component. Furthermore, the annular lip is free from damage by interference between the annular lip and the axial component.
