An embodiment of a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is configured to carry out plural series of imaging while changing plural imaging conditions for a patient on a series basis, and has a storage unit configured to group plural parameter types related to some of the plural imaging conditions for carrying out the series of imaging into a plurality of groups, and to store a parameter value corresponding to one of the parameter types on a group basis, and has a controller which specifies a first series included in the plural series and a group to be used in the first series to read one of the parameter values belonging to the specified group from the storage unit, the controller setting the read parameter value as a parameter value related to some of plural imaging conditions to be used in a second series included in the plural series.

In the case where a main image taking process and a preliminary image taking process are contained in mutually the same series, an MRI apparatus displays list-view information showing a plurality of image taking processes contained in the series, together with an editing screen used for editing image taking conditions for one of the plurality of image taking processes, on a single screen. A magnetic resonance imaging system is provided for obtaining MR images by scanning a region of the object previously located on an object's positioning image. The system comprises a displaying unit, inputting unit, approximating unit, and locating unit. The displaying unit displays a plurality of tomographic images of the object as the positioning image, each of the tomographic images including an indication of a target of interest thereon. The inputting unit enables information about a running state of the target in a direction along the target to be supplied toward each of the tomographic images. The approximating unit calculates three-dimensionally an approximated curve indicating the running state of the target in the direction on the basis of the supplied information about the running state. The locating unit locates the region substantially perpendicular to the approximated curve.

The input unit receives a setting operation to set a plurality of image taking regions within a position determining image, from an operator of the apparatus. In magnetic resonance imaging, prepared first is a three-dimensional image data consisting of a plurality of tomographic image data of a diagnostic portion of an object being examined. Then, data of a pilot image in the three-dimensional image data are designated, and the pilot image is displayed. Then, a linear ROI (region of interest) is placed on the displayed pilot image. Then, image data of a cross-section are edited from the three-dimensional image data, the cross-section passing through the linear ROI in a space of the three-dimensional image data. On the basis of the edited image data of the cross-section, a prediction image for scan is displayed.
