The invention relates to a novel fluorine-containing copolymer which comprises 25-75 mol % of chlorotrifluoroethylene, 10-70 mol % of a vinyl or isopropenyl ester of fatty acid and 3-40 mol % of allylglycidyl ether and may optionally comprise additional comonomer(s) such as an acrylate. This copolymer possesses favorable properties characteristic of fluororesins, is soluble in various organic solvents and is curable with a compound having a functional group that reacts with epoxy group. A coating liquid using this copolymer gives a hard, stable and transparent coating film on either metal surface or glass surface.

Soluble and curable fluorine-containing copolymer

The invention relates to an optical fiber of the step-index type in which the core material is poly(methyl methacrylate) or a copolymer of methyl methacrylate with another methacrylate or an acrylate. A copolymer of vinylidene fluoride with hexafluoroacetone is employed as the cladding material which makes good adhesion to the polymethacrylate core. When the amount of hexafluoroacetone is 4-20 mole %, the copolymer is low in crystallinity, high in transparency, appropriately low in refrax index and higher than 100.degree. C. in softening temperature, and can be extruded under the conditions suited to extrusion of poly(methyl methacrylate).

The disclosure relates to enhancement of mechanical strength and heat resistance of a graft copolymer which is obtained by graft copolymerization of a fluorine-containing monomer that gives a crystalline polymer, such as vinylidene fluoride, with an elastomeric copolymer having peroxy bond, such as a ternary copolymer of vinylidene fluoride, chlorotrifluoroethylene and an unsaturated peroxy compound. A small amount of triallylisocyanurate is mixed with the graft copolymer, and the mixture is formed into a desired shape by a usual method such as calendering or compression moulding. The shaping material is exposed to ionizing radiation such as gamma-ray, which causes cross-linking of the graft copolymer.

A blend polymer composition, which is superior to polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) in impact resistance and retains favorable properties of PVDF, is obtained by blending 1-100 parts, and preferably 1-50 parts, by weight of a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and hexafluoroacetone (HFA) with 100 parts by weight of PVDF. Preferably the mole ratio of copolymerized VDF to HFA is from 96:4 to 50:50.
