A method of inspecting defects in an inspection target includes (1) a step of supplying a particle-containing gas to one end face of the inspection target under pressure, applying in parallel a first laser beam to the vicinity of the other end face of the inspection target, and photographing such end face from a position vertical to such end face, (2) a step of supplying a particle-containing gas to the one end face of the inspection target under pressure, applying in parallel a second laser beam to the vicinity of the other end face of the inspection target, and photographing such end face from a position vertical to such end face, and (3) a step of specifying defects in the inspection target from photographic results obtained by the steps (1) and (2).

Method for inspecting defect of article to be inspected

A display device includes an illuminating device having an optical waveguide plate for introducing light thereinto, a drive assembly having a planar array of actuators disposed in facing relation to the optical waveguide plate, a displacement transmitter assembly disposed between the optical waveguide plate and the drive assembly, and a light scattering layer disposed on the displacement transmitter assembly. The actuators are selectively displaceable to bring the light scattering layer into and out of contact with the optical waveguide plate, for controlling light that leaks from the optical waveguide plate as emitted light. The display device also includes an optical modulator for modulating the emitted light from the illuminating device to display an image. The illuminating device has a light reflecting layer disposed on at least a portion of the displacement transmitter assembly that confronts the optical waveguide plate.

An optical system of a display including a light conducting plate introduced with light and a panel portion provided to oppose to one plate surface of the light conducting plate. The panel portion includes a driving part arranged with actuator parts each corresponding to a plurality of pixels so as to control displacement motions of the actuator parts in the contacting and separating directions to and from the light conducting plate correspondingly to attributions of input image signals, thereby controlling leaked light-beams in predetermined regions of the light conducting plate, to thereby cause the light conducting plate to display an image corresponding to the input image.
