A method of water electrolysis for producing acidic water and alkaline water is disclosed, which is effective in preventing the dissolution of electrode material in the acidic water, etc. attributable to a reverse current flowing in a power supply cutoff state and also in preventing electrode deactivation caused by the electrode material dissolution. This enables the electrolytic cell to be operated stably over a long period of time to yield high-purity acidic and alkaline waters. An electrolytic cell 1 partitioned into an anode chamber and a cathode chamber with a cation-exchange membrane 2 as a solid electrolyte is used to electrolytically produce acidic water and alkaline water. A voltage of 1.2 V or higher and/or a current of 20 mA/dm.sup.2 or higher is applied between the anode 7 and the cathode 8 when the electrolytic cell is in a power supply cutoff state.

Method of water electrolysis

There are provided an ozone water treatment method by comprising the steps of injecting an ozone-containing gas into pure water to prepare ozone water, supplying the ozone water to use point(s) for treatment of materials to be treated, and circulating for reuse or discharging the ozone water after use, which comprises disposing a deozonizing apparatus, the inside of which is divided into an ozone water passing zone and a reduced pressure zone by a diaphragm, at the downstream side of the use point(s), supplying the ozone water after use to the ozone water passing zone of the deozonizing apparatus, and removing residual ozone and residual oxygen in the ozone water after use by contacting the water with the reduced pressure zone through the diaphragm and an apparatus utilized in the ozone treatment method.

Ozone water treatment method and apparatus

An electrolytic ozone generator comprising anode chamber 3 and cathode chamber 4 partitioned by solid electrolyte 2, in which deionized water is electrolyzed in the cathode chamber while feeding air or oxygen-rich air to the cathode chamber through, for example, air holes 14. The air fed suppresses evolution of hydrogen gas thereby affording a saving of energy and eliminating the need a separate cooling mechanism. Furthermore, the air also decomposes ozone having entered the catholyte.

Disclosed is an electrode structure for ozone production which comprises a perfluorocarbon sulfonic acid-based ion-exchange membrane as a solid electrolyte and an anode placed on one side of the solid electrolyte and having a lead oxide as an electrode catalyst, wherein a porous, perfluorocarbon sulfonic acid-based ion-exchange resin layer is formed between the electrolyte and the anode. A process for producing the electrode structure for ozone production is also disclosed, which comprises coating one side of a perfluorocarbon sulfonic acid-based ion-exchange membrane as a solid electrolyte with a liquid, perfluorocarbon sulfonic acid-based ion-exchange resin or with a suspension of ion-exchange resin powder, heating-treating the liquid or suspension-formed ion-exchange resin coating to form an ion-exchange resin layer, and then positioning an anode so as to keep it in close contact with the ion-exchange resin layer, the anode having a lead oxide as an electrode catalyst.
