A power generation system in which the combustion heat of hydrocarbon gas is used to heat the steam for power generation; at the same time, the exhaust heat thereof is used to dry and thy-distill low rank coal. The power generation system includes: a dry distillation step for dry-distilling low rank coal of high moisture content; a cooling step for cooling the fixed carbon obtained in the dry distillation step; a combustion step in which hydrocarbon gas obtained in the dry distillation step is used as the main fuel; and a power generation step in which there are provided a power generator moving a steam turbine by main steam generated in the combustion step and a condenser.

Power generation system

A fixed carbon production device is provided with: a quench chamber for collecting fixed carbon; a dry distillation furnace which is erected and fixed in the quench chamber and into which raw material coal is fed; a dry distillation unit which is polygonal in horizontal cross-section and is partitioned by a separating wall which partitions the inside of the dry distillation furnace in the vertical direction; a dry distillation mini-furnace which is polygonal in horizontal cross-section and which is partitioned by a partition which partitions the inside of the dry distillation unit in the vertical direction; a pipe heating means which is arranged on the separating wall of the dry distillation unit and the partition of the dry distillation mini-furnace and which dry-distills the raw material coal; and a collection path for collecting fixed carbon collected in the quench chamber.

Fixed carbon production device

Most of the abundant naturally occurring low rank coal, which has a high moisture content and a high oxygen content, is transported with poor efficiency; utilized for heating with degraded thermal efficiency because of the loss of heat due to sensible heat for heating moisture and latent heat for vaporizing moisture; and utilized in existing coal combustion facilities with difficulty due to a high volatile component content. A complex system of the present invention for utilizing coal for manufacture of char and raw material gas and electric power generation is adopted to include: a drying unit for drying low rank coal of a high moisture content; a reformer for reforming the low rank coal that has been dried in the drying unit; a fluidized bed combustor for employing, as a fuel, the reformed coal obtained in the reformer; a producer gas supply pipe for supplying a combustion exhaust gas from the fluidized bed combustor as a pyrolytic and gasifying agent to the reformer; and a catalyst reforming unit for reforming a volatile component and the producer gas obtained from the low rank coal reformed in the reformer.

Complex system for utilizing coal in manufacture of char and raw material gas and electric power generation

An integrated coal gasification combined cycle facility is provided that can prevent a reduction in power generation efficiency even when low-grade coal having a relatively-high moisture content is used. Included are: a gasification section that gasifies supplied coal; a gas power generation section that generates power by using gas supplied from the gasification section; a steam power generation section that generates power by using the heat of exhaust gas discharged from the gas power generation section; and a coal drying unit that dries the coal by using exhaust heat discharged from the steam power generation section and that supplies the dried coal to the gasification section.

When the temperature of the exhaust gas exceeds 100&#xb0; C., a heat-treated active carbon produced by heat-treating a raw active carbon at 600 to 1,200&#xb0; C. in a non-oxidizing atmosphere and activating the surfaces thereof with sulfuric acid or nitric acid to impart oxidizing oxygen-containing functional groups thereto is preferably used.

Heat-treated active carbons for use in denitration, processes for producing same, denitration method using same, and denitration system using same

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

An active carbon for use in the treatment of exhaust gas can be obtained by heat-treating a starting active carbon fiber derived from polyacrylonitrile, pitch or the like or a starting particulate active carbon in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The heat-treating temperature is preferably in the range of 600 to 1,200 &deg; C. for use in the desulfurization of exhaust gas, and in range of 600 to 1,000&deg; C. for use in the denitration of exhaust gas. By using the resulting heat-treated active carbon for the purpose of desulfurization, the sulfur oxide concentration in exhaust gas can be reduced to 5 ppm or below. Moreover, by using the heat-treated active carbon in combination with conventional denitration based on selective catalytic reduction, the nitrogen oxide concentration in exhaust gas can be reduced to 1 ppm or below.

Exhaust gas treating systems

A process for the denitration of combustion exhaust gas from combustion equipment by passing the exhaust gas through an ammonia reduction denitrator, comprises providing a bypass having a low-temperature denitrator installed therein; while the temperature of the exhaust gas is not high enough to allow the ammonia reduction denitrator to function properly, as encountered immediately after starting the combustion equipment, passing the exhaust gas through the bypass to perform the denitration thereof by means of the low-temperature denitrator; when the ammonia reduction denitrator has come to function properly, closing the bypass to perform the denitration of the exhaust gas by means of the ammonia reduction denitrator; and regenerating a catalyst within said low-temperature denitrator while the by-pass is closed.

Exhaust gas denitration method

Disclosed is a novel structured body of carbon in the form of a particle having electric conductivity comparable with graphite, which has a frustum-formed protrusion formed from a top flat consisting of a single carbon pentagon and a lateral surface consisting of a plurality of carbon hexagons. The structured body of carbon is prepared by a two-stage heat treatment of a carbonaceous material having a carbon pentagon to form a crystalline structure, such as a fullerene compound, in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The first stage heat treatment is conducted at 800 to 1200&deg; C. to effect complete degradation of the crystalline structure of the starting material into an amorphous state and the second stage heat treatment is conducted at 1800 to 2500&deg; C. to effect re-crystallization but not to cause graphitization.

An active carbon for use in the treatment of exhaust gas can be obtained by heat-treating a starting active carbon fiber derived from polyacrylonitrile, pitch or the like or a starting particulate active carbon in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The heat-treating temperature is preferably in the range of 600 to 1,200.degree. C. for use in the desulfurization of exhaust gas, and in range of 600 to 1,000.degree. C. for use in the denitration of exhaust gas. By using the resulting heat-treated active carbon for the purpose of desulfurization, the sulfur oxide concentration in exhaust gas can be reduced to 5 ppm or below. Moreover, by using the heat-treated active carbon in combination with conventional denitration based on selective catalytic reduction, the nitrogen oxide concentration in exhaust gas can be reduced to 1 ppm or below.
