Pest infestations of plant materials are controlled by the application of vaporized organic aldehydes of 3 or more carbon atoms, with at least the initial part of the exposure being performed under a subatmospheric pressure.

Volatile aldehydes as pest control agents

Mosquito abatement is effected by administering to a water source containing mosquitoes an effective amount of a water-insoluble alcohol in a water-miscible form. The water-miscible form is provided in a wide variety of ways such as mechanical agitation (e.g. sonication), addition of a surfactant (e.g. a detergent), etc. The invention also provides labeled containers, including dispensers, containing a composition comprising a water-insoluble alcohol in a water miscible form and an affixed legible label providing instructions for the use of the composition for mosquito abatement.

Methods for mosquito abatement

The present invention relates to Mucoriopsis ellipsoidus fungus. The invention also provides methods of extracting chitin from Mucoriopsis ellipsoidus and the chitin produced by this process.

The present invention provides antimicrobial compositions, especially compositions comprising an antimicrobial (microbiocidal or microbiostatic) compound and a potentiator of antimicrobial activity. Compositions of the invention combining an antimicrobial compound and a potentiator are able to kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms using much lower concentrations of the antimicrobial compound. The potentiator also enhances the efficacy of antimicrobial compounds against resistant strains of the microorganism.
