A normally liquid epoxy resin obtainable by reaction of a bisphenol based oligocarbonate having terminal phenolic hydroxyl groups with an epihalohydrin, followed by dehydrohalogenation. The epoxy resin is capable of forming a tough cured product having improved flexural strength and flexural modulus. A process for the production of an epoxy resin foam in which a polyepoxy compound is crosslinked and simultaneously foamed by the aid of carbonate oligomers having terminal phenolic hydroxyl groups.
