A 3,4-dihalogenoisothiazole derivative represented by the general formula [I] (wherein Ris a halogen atom; A is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom; and R is a C-Calkyl group, a C-Calkenyl group, a C-Calkynyl group, a C-Ccycloalkyl group, a phenyl group or a 5- to 10-membered heterocyclic group containing at least one of oxygen atom, sulfur atom and nitrogen atom), or a salt thereof.

The present invention relates to preventives or remedies for Alzheimer's disease, or to amyloid protein fibril-formation inhibitors, which include as an active ingredient a compound of general formula (I) below or a pharmacologically permitted salt thereof; and also to nitrogen-containing heteroaryl derivatives having specific substituents, or pharmacologically permitted salts thereof, which are valuable as preventives or remedies for Alzheimer's disease, or as amyloid protein fibril-formation inhibitors: (where, Rand Rare H or alkyl; Zand Zare H, alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl or halogeno; Zis alkoxy, SH, alkylthio, NH, mono- or di-alkylamino, OH or halogeno; Zand Zare H or halogeno; and A is 4,6-pyrimidine-1,3-diyl, 1,3,5-triazine-2,6-diyl, etc).

A 1,2-benzoisothiazole derivative or a salt thereof is not harmful to a crop and is remarkably effective against agricultural or horticultural plant diseases such asand, and an agricultural or horticultural plant disease-controlling agent containing the derivative or its salt as an active ingredient. An isoxazole compound having the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxyl, alkylthio, amino, alkanoyl, alkanoylamino, alkanoyloxy, alkoxycarbonyl, carboxy, (alkylthio)thiocarbonyl, carbamoyl, nitro or cyano; R.sup.2 represents an amino; m is 2 or 3; n is 1 to 6; ring A represents a phenyl ring, a naphthyl ring or an aromatic heterocycle; and X represents oxygen or sulfur. The isoxazole compound has an excellent monoamine oxidase inhibitory activity, and is useful for treating Parkinson's disease, depression and Alzheimer's disease.

New compounds, which we have named the 'Leustroducsins' have the formula (I): ##STR1## in which R represents a 5-methylhexanoyloxy group, a 6-methyloctanoyloxy group or a 7-methyloctanoyloxy group, and salts thereof, and may be prepared by fermentation using a microorganism of the genus Streptomyces, especially a strain of the species Streptomyces platensis, such as strain SANK 60191 (FERM BP-3288).
